FOOTBALL: CELTS TRIED TO BREAK MY LEGS Oct 24 2004
By Euan Mclean And Mark Guidi
SEETHING Shakhtar wonder kid Ciprian Marica has branded Celtic players 'monsters' who queued up to try to break his leg.
The 19-year-old forward even accused the Hoops of trying to crush him into a THOUSAND pieces.
Marica missed the second half of Shakhtar's 3-0 Champions League win in Donetsk on Wednesday after a scything tackle from Stan Varga left him crocked.
But he had already BEGGED to be taken off long before then.
Marcia said: 'Celtic were like monsters and their only intention was to crush me into thousands of pieces. Whenever I got near the box they tried to break my legs.'
He reckons he was singled out for rough treatment because the Hoops were scared of him after Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu hailed him a better talent than England prodigy Wayne Rooney.
Marica said: 'Mr Lucescu said I was his Wayne Rooney or that I was better than him. While it was flattering for me unfortunately this comparison caused me many problems during the game.
'As far as Celtic's players were concerned only one player from Shakhtar was on the pitch - and that player was me.
'They started with a clear intention to finish me off.
'In the first 30 minutes I was the victim of seven or eight nasty fouls.
'After one heavy kick I said to Mr Lucescu I couldn't continue but he asked me to play on until half-time.
'Between talking to him and the half-time whistle I took another heavy kick.'
Varga was booked for the full-blooded slide tackle from behind that appears to have done the damage.
But Marica insists others including Bobo Balde and Stephen McManus subjected him to heavy treatment. Yet the striker's half-time substitution proved the turning point in the game as it allowed star man Matazulem to move forward from midfield.
The Brazilian's two goals after the break set the wheels in motion for a devastating defeat for Celtic.
Before the game Marica proved his mouth is as big as his talent, dismissing Celtic as a team of giants from a poor league who lump the ball long.
Now the defiant hitman has vowed to get his revenge by putting Hoops' fading European hopes to the sword when Shakhtar come to Glasgow on November 2.
He said: 'I will play in the next game against Celtic - I will be ready.'

Don't see why he can't be fined for making comments like this if varga came out after the game and said marica was a little fairy and went down looking for free kicks everytime he was tackle was put in there'd be murder.
