    It's interesting that Celtic for the following season will be awarded extra coefficient points because they won the European Cup.

    Unfortunately any bonus points won't be used in our coefficient for deciding if we're seeded or not. It will only be a factor in how the money is distributed.

    Judging by 3 of the 4 semi finalists (even an argument for all 4) we could beat them all. Lyon, Ajax and celta Vigo are not better than us. Specially Ajax, who fight from a similar level to us.

    If those 3 can do a Europa run, then no doubt with some luck of the draw, we should be doing the same.

    Europa League runs are for us fans only really, there's very little financial reward.

    Consistent Champions League participation is everything.

    It's a strange one because Champions League is where the money is, but if we're being realistic, I honestly think (With the current group of players) we could easily get to the latter stages of the Europa League (With a bit of luck along the way, which every team needs).

    There's no reason within the next 5 years, we could end up in a Final of a Europa League, if we continue our progression under BR.

    I enjoyed the Thursday night games, there's some crazy teams with hardcore fans in the Europa League, that you don't see in the Elite CL.

    The ideal situation is qualification (£30m banked already) and 3rd in the group's with a decent points total, then an extended run in the EL knockouts.

    Everybody wins, club gets the cash, we get to see us against the best of the best, and the EL offers the excitement of a knockout and potential to get to a European final.

    If we get a kind enough draw in the CL (assuming we qualify :fear:) then last 16 is also achievable and who knows from there.

    That's why everyone is saying g champions league group stage then finish 3rd and go on a run from their making a europa quarter finals from champions league is better coefficient wise and make just about same amount of money as you would making the last sixteen of cl

    I never said I actively wanted to finish third just saying the benefits of making europa league quarter final through the champions league is as beneficial as finishing last sixteen in the champions league when you compare the rewards

    Ideal, well apart from winning CL, would be good run in CL then getting to final of Europa and winning it.
    That way guaranteed GS of CL following season and there is the small bonus of being the only Scottish club to win BOTH European trophies :84:

    who gives a * about the basic principles of competitive sport. the champions league is no longer a true competitive competition for the CHAMPIONS of countries outside of the top 5 leagues. everyone would be ecstatic to reach the last 16 again, but winning a european trophy is where the true glory lies.

    Im happy to admit im jealous of the ajax fans right now, even though they didnt qualify for the champions league and we did

    ..aaaaaaand it's begun.

    I would settle for a 2-2 away from home in the play offs, 1-0 at Parkheed, Chelsea, A.Madrid, some diddy * in the group (Preferably in group C), beat the diddy club home and away, get beat away at Madrid, draw at home, beat off Chelsea away and win at home.

    Finish third, go into the Europa, go on a 'run' and probably win it.

    Listen of course everyone wants to go far as they can in the champions league making the quarter finals would be amazing as the squad is the now it can probably achieve last sixteen of champions league or finish third in the group and make last 32 of Europa and probably reach the quarter finals of that competition maybe even the semi and if that was the case celtic would have made more money and more coeff points than making the last sixteen of champions league

    If anyone would give up the last 16 of the Champions League to drop into the Europa because hypothetically we have a better chance of winning the lesser competition they need their heid checked.

    Yeh actually to me making the last 8 or four or even final of Europa league is better than making the last sixteen of champions league and whole lot of fellow fans feel the same it every bit of prestigious obviously in terms of money champions league is the place to be but it's almost a closed shop by the time you make the last sixteen oh and btw try less of being a * it's only a forum and a debate
