Just shows how close we are to being in pot 3 and where we stand. A few bad results next season and we could cement pot 4. But in turn, a couple good wins and it could cement pot 3.

we have to get there first.

champions route guarantees no "big sides" to compete with but all the same these fixtures come early, usually involve ridiculous travel times and are far from easy.

getting there will be good enough for me.

I'm more confident now than I have ever been going into it tbh and I'm usually pessimistic as * heading into these.

Hopefully that is not naivety but I think the 2 qualifiers we went through last year (Astana and Hapoel) are about as hard as you can get.

Both in terms of quality of side and logistics. You only need to look at how Astana have performed in Europe in recent years and how Be'er Sheva went on to do in the Europa to know that. Both places were in the * end of nowhere too in front of hostile crowds in roasting conditions.

We'd do well to get tougher this season and we are a year further down the line with the squad plus we will have 2 or 3 quality re-reinforcements (hopefully). Not saying it will be straight forward but we have no reason to fear anyone. Not with Rodgers at the helm.

Its still not really certain, to be Pot 3 we need to be ranked atleast 24th out of the teams that qualify

    Real
    Bayern
    Barca
    Atletico
    Juventus
    PSG
    Dortmund
    Sevilla
    Benfica
    Chelsea
    Man City
    Shakhtar Donetsk
    Tottenham
    Basel
    Monaco
    Liverpool
    Roma/Napoli
    Porto
    Besiktas

Those 19 above are just about certain to qualify. So we could only afford 5 of these other teams to qualify...

    Roma/Napoli
    Olympiacos
    Zenit
    Man Utd/Lyon
    Dinamo Kiev
    Ajax
    Anderlecht

Probably a 50/50 chance as it stands.

I hope to * we don't end up playing in Asia again in the qualifiers, those unknown teams halfway round the planet give me the fear, oh and not * Israel again either.

We'll still get Barca, Ajax and Benfica, We should resign ourselves to it, they'll change rules to make sure it happens :56:

We have a much better chance than 50/50 of being Pot 3 as it stands, which has been articulated elsewhere.

No as they are a Pot 2 team if they don't win this years CL or Spanish League.

That record article is riddled with information that is either wrong, or completely irrelevant to anything.

As things stand just now, and assuming that the EL winner will go straight into the group stage, there would be 7 teams ranked above us taking part in qualifying stages. We would need 3 of them to be knocked out. One definitely would be, as 6 of the teams are in the non-Champions route, and only 5 can qualify. But you're still looking at three of Dynamo Kiev, Ajax, Man City, Seville, Dortmund, Napoli and Olympiacos going out.

That's as things stand. To get Pot 3 we'd need a lot of things to go our way in how the national leagues turn out, who wins the European trophies, and who makes it through qualifying. We've a better chance than we've had in recent years. But we're still probably going to be relying on some pretty big teams not making it through qualifying.

Quite. We have a great record further east in the qualifiers - knocked out Spartak and Dinamo Moscow, Karagandy, Qarabag, Astana and fling in Beer Sheva as well.

We are due an easy(ish) group. There were some really weak UCL groups last year, as there are every year. Hope this is our year to get a decent draw.( None of this wanting "glamour" ties/making up the numbers mentality , let's get a decent draw and progress).

Yeah, not a fan of that mindset. I'm not there to get pumped and I've seen us play enough big sides in the past decade or so, for one year I'd just like a realistic group.

Especially now. We need a few wins this time around if we qualify to help our co-efficient.

Will barca not be the best of the rest after the 7 league winners and assuming a champion wins the champions league. So they'll get pot 1. The idea of them in pot 2 is too much :99:

    Couldn't agree more.

    Glamour ties FFS!?

Makes us seem like one of those * Conference teams who draws Chelsea or Man U in the FA Cup.

I want a group where we have a realistic chance of competing. * sick of playing Barca.

If the CL winner also wins their league, the Ukrainian champions will move up to Pot 1.

A Europa league run may be best for us long term then, it builds up a lot more points than a last 16 place.

To me having a aalbirg in group at time and finishing behind them was a serious underachievement considering how strong the pound was against the euro at the time think we were 19 th on delloitte money league at the time strachan should have had his balls booted for that

Give me the weakest group humanly possible. Then the weakest last 16, the weakest jammy last 8. * glamour ties. I want to actually win a few games. We can have a glamour tie in the final.
