The best thing about him was his name rhymed with 'hole'.

    Legend.

"He was a pay-as-you-play punt, available to sign between transfer windows. If he could cut it, he’d get a game and be paid, if not, he wouldn’t cost a penny."

CQN think he was a pay as you play- that's probably where I read it previously- not exactly confirmation of the type of deal he was on tbf.

If he was on an 18 month contract the chances of him just cutting it and walking away without some sort of settlement would be slim.

Yes, the manager has final say on signings. That's been confirmed several times.

So he was forced on Ronny on a two month trial, Ronny tells Lawwell he's gash and doesn't want him, Lawwell said sound you're getting him anyway because I like dishing out thousands every week to a player you don't like and won't play?

I don't believe that it was only Ronnie making decisions on players neither did Lennon imo. I think the last manager to have full say (within a limited budget) was Gordon Strachan.

The two month trial may have been Ronny trying to resist signing him or waiting until he was fully fit to make a decision- I don't think he had played for a bit.

Like has been said before, I don't believe that he was getting a wage every week.

Based on what evidence? How would Ronny have any decision to make if he wasn't the one that was making the decision?

I don't understand this at all, Lawwell hates spending money as it is. Why would he force a player on a manager he knows he won't use and knows that'll it'll just be a waste of money?

Why would Ronny lie and cover for him if that was the case? Last manager who had a player 'forced' on them was actually Strachan. With Roy Keane, who was a Dermot Desmond signing, WGS didn't bother either way and read him the riot act upon first meeting him.

I think it was when John Park walked into Parkhead with Cole that people thought he was making a statement as chief scout?

John Park is involved in our signings, as are a lot of others. John Park couldn't force a playee in the manager though. No chance.

The thing with Cole is, we obviously missed out on our striker targets and badly needed another option so we had a look at the free agents outside transfer window, right or wrong he was seen as a decent addition to the squad

It is possible the chief scout who has been here before a manager and will be here after a manager will have quite a bit of clout when it comes to signings because players are normally signed for a few years and a manager might not last that long. Isn't that what a lot of clubs have in place now?

That's a director of football mate, Park's role is something different. He's lower in the pecking order than the manager, whereas a director of football is above in the pecking order.
