He has been absolutely outstanding in the last few games, anyone that can't see that does not understand football.

He was probably the best player on the park against City when his team got spanked, that shows you how good he has been.

Integral player for United, his goal record proves that. I wouldn't class him as one of the best players in the world. He had the potential to be but he plateaued. He needs to cut out the off field distractions and concentrate on his game. When he does this, like he has in the last few games, then he is one of the best in the Premiership

Wayne Rooney at 18 looked like he was going to become the best in the world.
Never became the player he should have become.
I think Ronaldo becoming the main player at United slowed down Rooneys progress.

No Rooney points out exactly what made Ronaldo different from him in his own book .

Wayne Rooney: "However, Cristiano Ronaldo's ambition isn't just talk. I noticed something different in him right in 2006, at the Carrington changing rooms, just when the season was about to kickoff. He was now significantly bigger... He arrived from the 2006 Germany World Cup all buffed up, as if he had spent his Summer on the gym and lifting weights all the time. I've also noted he had changed the way he plays on the pitch, as he now stopped doing most of his fancy tricks and started being more objective and delivering an end product to his classic dazzling runs", pointed out Rooney, as he identified the 2006-07 season as a positive turning point in Cristiano Ronaldo's career.

Rooney: "One thing I'm definitely sure though is the following. This change in Ronaldo didn't happen by luck. He does work * hard week after week! Most of the players just go straight home after the training session is finished, but not Ronaldo. We often spotted him all by himself on the training ground, a long after the practice session had finished, working and perfecting his skills in new training drills", acknowledged the Manchester United forward.

Wayne Rooney: "I believe his impressive ethic of work is something that most people still don't recognize and give him the credits he deserves for it. Usually, fans think that players like Cristiano Ronaldo are born with a talent and don't need to do much more to be succesful. They even say that everything comes easy for him and that players like him can't be coached, but they couldn't be more wrong! Well, part of it is true, but he did have a lot of hard work ahead of him to get to the level where he is today. Everytime I watch him training or just scoring great goals for fun in pre-season friendlies, I really think Ronaldo could become the best player in the World", said Rooney several years ago, but clearly before 2008, since Cristiano Ronaldo ended up winning the FIFA Best Player in the World award later that year.

Rooney can match him for desire and work rate on pitch etc . Now the big key point here he knows exactly what Ronaldo did and how he looks after his body and works hard in the gym etc over the summer . Now you compare that to Rooney who seems to love to go out and get smashed all summer long and eat as much * food as he can etc.

Only 1 person has held Wayne Rooney back and that person is Wayne Rooney.

He looks back to his best, id written him off a bit but he looks sharp and hungry again. Good to see, he was one of my favourite players 3/4/5 years ago.

I dunno, I must be watching too much La Liga these days. My definition of "absolutely outstanding" seems to differ from those watching EPL regularly.

In my book, "absolutely outstanding" applies thus far this season to the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Isco & Diego Costa.

Wayne Rooney, from what I've seen, doesn't quite match up.

Funny thing is, I don't think Messi has been as particularly outstanding as usual.

    Isco has been genius.

Rooney has started very well but he's not in the same bracket as Ronaldo and Messi but he is a very good player nontheless. There aren't many players as classy as those two.

I'm failing to see where Rooney was the best player on the park against City on Sunday. He was roughed up by Kompany, picked up a yellow for persistent fouling, and never had much impact in my opinion.

He kept on going til the end, and scored a cracker, which says a lot about his character, but his direct opponent Kompany, was far superior to Rooney in terms of MOTM contenders.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Rooney is *. He's certainly not.

He's not as good as he's made out to be by the English media though in my opinion. And I certainly don't think that he, or Manchester United for that matter, have been anywhere near "absolutely outstanding" this season.

As for Messi, you say that he hasn't been as particularly outstanding thus far, yet his record reads as 5 games played, 7 goals scored, 3 assists and 32 shots.

It's early days in the Spanish league season, but that's a record that suggests "absolutely outstanding" in my opinion.

    Rooney's record of 4 games, 2 goals, 2 assists and 14 shots doesn't.

Best player on the park? Come off it Hammer.

He did a lot of running and a lot of fouling and then scored an excellent free-kick but there is no chance he was the best performer out there.

Thats a pretty accurate read on Sundays game for me. Credit to Rooney for sticking at it and not throwing in the towel but Kompany was different class.

The first half kompany was all over him but not in the second, the 2nd half rooney probably was the best player or near enough.

I'd love to have him at Celtic some day even if its just for a brief loan spell. Could you imagine having Rooney up front for us? Fucksake
