I'm not discounting them. The goals just didn't impact on the result of the game.

    And?

The likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard etc do not do as well for England as they do for their clubs.

    * England anyway.

Not as well, but Gerrard has scored 3 world cup goals and plays extremely well whenever he does play for England.

As for Lampard, he's never been played in his favoured position for England, which is behind a lone striker, he's always been played centre midfield or holding midfield.

Rooney has played in his favoured position in both world cups and did * all.

I couldn't give a * about England either, just stating facts.

As poorly as Gerrard and Lampard play for England, it's still a lot better (especially in the bigger games) than Rooney ever does.

Except for in either world cup, or against Italy in last years Euro's. Or when they failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

4 Euro Games and 4 goals isn't a good record for you?

It's pretty good, but considering the stage it was at and considering his failures at both world cups and other England matches, not good enough to be considered world class, no.

What do you think about Messi not scoring any world cup goals?

He scored against Serbia in 2006 has he not? And his recent record for Argentina has been amazing, like 12 in 9 games.

Also he did perform very well against South Korea and Mexico in the 2010 world cup creating and setting up most of the goals in those two games.

Don't think he did? Just trying to get a scope of what your measuring stick is here because your scale for world class on the last page describes Rooney to a tee

It describes some of Rooney's performances, but he's not consistent enough.

Also Messi scored the 6th in Serba's 6-0 trashing in the 2006 group stages and set up quite a few goals for Argentina in 2010, which was a poorly managed team to be honest. He's quickly turned his Argentina form around if his recent scoring records are anything to go by, all in qualifiers too.

His recent one for Argentina as I've stated. During the 3 years or so under Maradona they were a very poorly managed team, since then Messi has shown his true quality.

Hes friggin scored more than both aguero and tevez not only last season but this season aswell, got a superior goals to games ratio than the pair of them and is also currently leading the assists chart with a few others, yet theyre world class and rooney isnt ..... go figure.

I said i'd rather have them in my team than Rooney, not that they're world class.

Rooney's scoring record in the league is reasonably consistent.
