I am sorry if you are offended,my family also suffered in ireland and my mother has had her fair share of abuse in scotland, i know exactly what these songs are about,i was simply pointing out why many people still sing them :shamrock:

cheers but can I ask you why you are calling yourself Armalite? Seems a bit weird given your otherwise sensible opinions.

The answer to the whole * question, mate. If you can't accept that as the only necessary reason to stop associating our great club with terrorists, perhaps you should take the huns recent advice? You can debate all you want about heritage and history but that for me is what it all boils down to, whether you advocate violence towards civilians.

Good observation Keltoi. I see where your coming from.

It is a nickname that my close friends call me. It just seemed to be the first name that came to mind when registering. Maybe should have given it more thought at the time.

IRA songs - old fashioned, bigoted ideas.

Well, the way I see it. I support the IRA believes, but I don't support some of their actions. Like the Omagh bombings

So basically you are saying that Celtic FC/PLC should "do business" with people who are openly involved in this sort of bile? I am sorry but you are so off the mark mate it is unreal.

We are not talking about people who are doing something wrong and when shown the error of their ways and offered "incentives" will stop their wrongdoing. We are talking about people who are either too stupid to understand the situation or are ideologically brainwashed neither of whom are likely to change.

the statement he makes which i have highlighted, clearly implies the IRA songs somehow have a root to Celtic Football Club.

Support those roots ? singing an IRA song is apparently supporting celtic's roots, you see where i'm coming from now mate ?

so maybe you should actually read things first and foremost, before trying to question me.

    I rest my case :50:

There is a significant difference between the singing of 'The Fields of Athenry' or something like 'Roll of Honour'. I think it's a distinction which needs to be made.

Personally speaking I consider myself 100% Scottish, so I don't feel the need to celebrate my own or the club's Irish-ness, but understand that others love to do it. If anything I wish we would celebrate our Scottish-ness a bit more, starting with a few more Scottish flags at games.

What I hate more than anything tho, is to see and hear wee neds outside or inside CP chanting songs about people and politics which they have no clue about, they are not celebrating the club's Irish roots, they are are simply trying to act the big man, trying to wind up Rangers fans and generally making a * of themselves. Maybe some people should try educating themselves before opening their large gobs.

    LET THE PEOPLE SING!!!
People need to realize that there is no room for * singing willie maley with "IRA" in it.
    * pointless are those. And not only do you disgrace celtic, celtic supporters but the irish republican movement itself. Willie Maley brought the IRA to celtic? FFS.. okay you idiot.

I see nothing the matter with songs like fields, soldiers song, this land is your land, ltps, even boys of the old brigade.

Those songs are about honoring the past heroes. Even if to you that includes the provisionals (like me) or not.

No different to me then singing my national anthem about kicking britain out of america with terrorism.
