He has the potential to become a 'Dream Team' type CD. Only potential at this stage as he's rarely tested by opposing CFs. Fantastic replacement for Kelvin Wilson however! He was terrible!

All in all, I think I still prefer Ambrose with the ball at his feet but still does the job.

Leroy Fer receives random late call up to the Netherland's squad, where's the Virgil late call up van Gaal?!

Sooo ... what do folks think of him now?

Everyone is entitled to a poor game, but my word. Big-time players aren't supposed to look that lost, and play that poorly when their backs are against the wall.

He took a few steps backward yesterday, in my opinion. I think he was reading a wee bit too much of his own press, knowing how good he is.

Hopefully he smartens up and continues to grow as the player everyone hopes he can be.

I know, it's just that I don't think anyone saw it coming, is all ... considering how well he's settled in and played so far this year.

Listen it's all relative to the quality of the individual. He's only seen as having a bad game by his own recent high standards.
It did make me think however of the report that came out of some Dutch guy on the eve of the Ajax game where he said that VVD was only seen as exceptional based upon the level of the Scottish game, he didn't rate him quite as highly in the concept of the Dutch game. I think he was an ex-Scottish coach or trainer or something, can't remember his name.
All that being said, I think he's an exceptional potential for us, he's still learning and this where we want them to perform.

He had a bad game, lost concentration and we can forgive him, it will make him a better player and I don't think we'll see him do that again.

I think Ambrose and Virgil were too busy being our best attacking players to defend properly anyway!

You mean the same Dutch league that he made it into the team of the season ?

Have to remember he's still young in terms of a centre half, him and Ambrose both are, and both struggled against Balotelli last night. They can hopefully learn from coming up against that standard of opponent and improve from it.

no shame in struggling a bit against a player like Balotelli. We played a bit higher up the field which didn't help plus our best creative players who take the game by the scruff of the neck are our defenders!

Was devastated about the offside header, particularly because it was big Virgil. It was such a great header, and if any of our players deserve a goal in Europe this season, it;s him.

One of a few that are accountable for the goals conceded. Don't think he can be particularly happy with his defensive contribution.
