I've put him on as first goalscorer for 3 weeks in a row and I forgot to do it this morning.

I have done first goalscorer van dijk 3 times in the last 5/6 weeks fancied him today but never done him..

He's worth a go everytime till it comes in again which it is bound to..

Guy wins absolutely everything he goes for..

He is a class beyond anything we've seen in Scotland for a while. I think he is that good.

To think we had all the comments about being a Dutch nobody a few months back.

Thought he would be in the Dutch squad for the upcoming friendlies. It seems that Ajax youngster Veltman done enough against Celtic to merit a call up. Think our man was a stand out and deserves it.

Sutton was right in his post match analysis when he said that VVD was like Ferdinand.

Except younger, fitter and more talented :icon_mrgreen:

Joel Veltman who has played partly with the Ajax Jong (B team) and partly full Ajax team this season, selected instead of van Dijk in the upcoming friendlies.

Veltman has a total of just 18 first team Ajax games under his belt and a total of 39 games at professional club level which includes mostly with Ajax Jong, whilst never getting capped beyond Netherlands U20 level.

To compare Virgil van Dijk not even 1 year older has loads more experience and has been capped at U21 Netherlands level 3 times with a total of 89 games played at professional club level, all of which is top flight level football.

Rather baffling indeed that Virgil has been given the blind eye, especially over someone like Veltman.

When was the last time a player came in and made such a huge impression, so quickly?

Izzy and Kayal were fantastic when they first arrived, but I know what you mean.

In terms of hype I can't think of anyone.

    In terms of performances, Commons.

In terms of hype, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

In terms of immediate impact, I'd say Barry Robson.

This guy has definitely lived up to the hype that surrounded him when he come, and a bit more in my opinion. He has got everything you want in a centre half. Reads the game well, good on the deck, and in the air, has a turn of pace, and is strong.

    * me, I'm making him sound like Beckenbauer here. But in all seriousness, he has been superb.

Gravesens signing had far more hype surrounding it than Big Jans, though, surely?

Robson is a good shout, but I'd say Commons' impact was greater.

He would probably score more goals uptop than our current strikers would though. :56: Didn't he also play as central forward against Morton for a part of the game?

It did, until they signed really, I can just remember it going into absolute overdrive with Larsson comparisons after he scored on his debut against Hibs. People were going bonkers.

Kayal and Emilio were both signing for Man United within a month of being at Celtic....

We just have to hope Van Dijk continues as he has started because there is always that niggling thing with Celtic players quick out the blocks. Lee Naylor syndrome.

In SPFL terms he is a Beckenbauer. Strolls through the League games with the proverbial cigar in mouth.
