Virgil van Dijk

I think Virgil has much more to his game than Alderweireld. He's faster, stronger and better on the ball. When it comes down to who the better defender is, it's very close. I'd say Alderweireld edges it though.

 

Pretty sure he was only a youth player then but fair enough if the stats suddenly don't matter to you

 

We'll soon see how Van Dijk does anyway, but im suprised you don't think he's that good.

 

I do rate him. You're using stats without any context though. As I said, that's in a league were a back 3 of Cahill Luiz and Azpilicueta are running away with the league. A League were Koscielny, John Stones and Chris Smalling are playing for the best teams.

What context do you want? you know what teams they play for and have seen them playing obviously. You just said he was better at everything except in the air and pace which is blatantly false.

Varane doesn't have one thing that Vvd doesn't, not one. Vvd has plenty over Varane..

You put VVD in Spurs side and they win the league.

 

Varane's probably a better talent than VVD, tho he's not really shown it that much in recent times. Not sure on Alderweireld, VVD probably slots into Spurs' team just as easily.

 

And Lennon. And when Southampton played in the Europa League this season.

Varane is quicker, better at one on ones, better at covering his partner, better defending crosses.

I'd say VVD is slightly stronger and is better at bringing the ball out from the back.

There's a reason Varane was winning La Decima while VVD was playing in Scotland.

 

VVD will surpass him in time but put Varane in the prem and he'd be the best CB by a distance.

 

I wouldn't say that. big problem in premier league is a big bubble were players think they only have to turn upto games that are in europa league and champions league group stages huge amounts of money for players who are only really getting their careers going causes that problem
