Varane pish? * me

 

He's looked * whenever I've seen him and others have said the same.

 

Varane is pish tbh, poor on the ball, weak defensively and mistake prone heavily overrated because he can run. He couldnt lace Van Dijks boots.

 

I think he could make the Bayern side, put in the CB and push Alaba back out to LB.

 

A back 3 of Virgil, Vertonghen and Alderweireld would be tasty.

 

Mate Varane is not pish. He's levels ahead of Van Dijk.

In the CL and the games against Inter VDV got shown up. The EPL is absolutely miles behind the top teams in European football. Alderweireld is probably the best CB in the league and he couldn't get near the Athletico team.

 

Alaba doesn't play CB for Bayern.

Hummels, Boateng and Martinez are all better than him and they've Sule who is also say is better coming in the summer.

 

No chance, Varane isnt good enough for Real Madrid. Van Dijk is better than Alderweireld as well, think you are underrating him.

 

The big man is class, best CB I've seen in a Celtic jersey.

He'll play for one of the big two in Spain, probably when Koeman gets the Barca job..

He was by far Southamptons best player in the EL, charging from defence to attack in every game kicking off moves, think he scored a couple of goals and missed 2/3 chances and hit the woodwork a coupl of times he looked like a 1 man team. Both played for Southampton and im pretty sure they'll know Van Dijk is far superior to him, he just won their player of the year and hadn't played since January.

Van Dijk is better than Alderweireld in every department for me. You can tell from just watching them but even the stats are very telling... Van Dijk wins 0.5 tackles and 2 interceptions more per game, win 3 headers more, is dribbled past half the amount, makes more cleareances, his passing is more accurate, he does 4x as much dribbling on the ball, sets up 3x as many chances.

Alderweireld is good in that he sits and defends and keeps it simple in a Koscielny sort of way, as you say he's never good enough for any top teams as he's quite limited to being just a decent player. Van Dijk has the tools to play for anyone, the height, pace, strength, ability to carry a ball, the leadership, the passing ability, can hit a decent shot.

 

Considering Alderweireld has played in a team like Spurs their stats all things considered are fairly equal even with a difference of 36 games between them,

Van Dijk in a top team would be instrumental to a solid defensive team who can play from the back.

But Southampton conceded less with a poorer squad with Alderweireld in the team, than with VVD in a better one.

You seem to be taking it personal that I said VVD wouldn't get in any team in the world. He's one of the best defenders in the EPL, that doesn't really mean much in the context of the best teams on the planet though.

You say he can do this and do that. Yeah, he does it in England. This is also the league which a team with a back 3 or Gary Cahill, Azpilicueta and David * Luiz are romping. He gets badly exposed in Europe. And there's been times where's been tore apart in the EPL. Martial made him look like a fool in one of his first games down there.

Compare that to the Job someone on the brink of retirement(Barzaghli) done to Mbappe, the best youngster in Europe last night. He's clearly a top drawer cb but he's not world class. Nowhere near it.

 

The key there? Wanyama and Schneiderlin Southampton's squad IMO has been getting weaker and weaker.

 

Im not taking it personal, you said Varane was far better which is a joke really. Varane makes mistakes all the time and struggles to pass a ball further than 10 yards, he is a poor player for Real Madrid. Then said Alderweireld was much better which I thinks nowhere near correct either, Alderweireld is good player but good in a quiet average way, never good enough for the top 10 teams in the world.

The Southampton team Alderweireld played in was better also, its when Fonte was good and they had Clyne who was very good and Wanyama and Schendierlin for protection and Mane playing up front its a good bit better than Van Dijk playing with Yoshida, Cedric, Romeu, Davis and Tadic playing in those positions.

Van Dijk will prove to be great when he moves to one of the top clubs I think.

 

But the team performed better. Surely if we're purely using stats for an arguement then VVD was playing in a better team last season?

By the way I actually agree with you about that point, I'm just using this to prove you can use stats to fit any side of any argument without context.

 

The Southampton team VVD played in is statically better overall apart from defensively. And you seem obsessed about stats when it comes to using them for your argument.

And sorry but how anyone can watch football and think Virgil is a better cb than Varane is absolutely baffling.

Your stuff about Varane is just plain pish. VVD has made a good amount of mistakes at a far lower level of football. Virgil is like Varane in that a lot of ways his physical attributes bail him out, but Varane has been proving himself at the highest level of football since he was about 18. VVD has looked out of place anytime he's stepped up to European level.

Never seen a player make Varane look stupid the way Martial did to Virgil.
