Pochettino said the other week about a player that he's no even heard of a buyout fee in England since he's been here and stumped the media..

I'm sure there probably has although it's early and I can't think of one off the head. Seriously doubt Southampton will have that..

Easily looking at 4 mill to us in my opinion..

Nah I think ultimately we do quality players the favour because we give them first team football consistently but also European football which puts them in the shop window for the EPL mostly.

I'm sure he signed for us with that in mind.

Mind that fiasco with Suarez and Arsenal trying to trigger his £40m BOC by adding £1 extra which I thought was the dumbest piece of business I'd heard of. Anyway, Liverpool rejected it and basically said BOC can't be enforced and I think there was general agreement about it. I'm not sure how true this is but that was an interesting case because Suarez wanted to leave. Why would players put BOCs in their contracts if they aren't enforceable?

I genuinely don't remember that mate, in that detail. I do remember Arsenal wanted him though..

I know in Europe it's pretty common in Portugal, Spain and Italy as well I think but I honestly don't know what the sort of rule of thumb is for it over here. I wouldn't like for any of our player's to be on them, as it leaves no bargaining price, but you'll see your Benfica's slapping 90 Euro price tags on kid's.... Which renders the BOC pointless anyway. A clear he's no for sale yet, as no one will pay that for most of these player's, but in a couple of year he may go for 20/25 :56:

Aye I always thought a BOC was a gtf statement by a club to protect their player from poaching by other clubs. But check this quote from John Henry in the Guardian at the time of the Suarez incident. It sounds as if he's saying Suarez didn't want to leave because when they sold Torres they had no choice, the player wanted to leave and you can't do much about it when a player wants to leave. However, when Virgil wanted to go to the EPL Lawwell didn't allow him to and he was forced to play one more season for us. At least that's how I understood it at the time.

I'm not sure I believe that statement regarding Torres, I think Liverpool knew he was past his best and cashed in.

Suarez definitely wanted to leave so that's a lot of nonsense Henry is saying about Torres and being unable to prevent players who insist on leaving.

Liverpool's contract was sneaky as *. It was worded so they only needed to inform the player, not accept the bid.

That 5M could go towards Snodgrass or McCarthy easy, then rid of Ciftci, Efe, Boyata, Allan then we have plenty off the wage bill to make room for either.

Get Man City to buy him for £50m so that we get the sell on fee of £5m then we get Man City to loan him to us for a season. :84:

I said to my da or brother as soon as I saw his post match interview when they'd been knocked out by Be'er Sheva. He's offski pronto. No Euro football to stay for, and for the foreseeable at that club..

He'll force through a move and the likes of City and other's are desperate to pay whatever for a top centre back just now. Southampton won't let him go to City for less than 50 as he's twice the player of Stones..

Win win for us here folk's..

Aye that's what it sounds like now because Suarez was quite upset at the time and it took a lot of loving from Liverpool for him to play another season with his heart in it.

A warning to other agents to make sure when they word a BOC contract that's exactly what it is. £40m was quite low thinking about it but interesting they said it was only the point at which they were willing to open negotiations, quite sneaky but good business sense. Especially as they ended up with near enough double that. I'm still convinced Suarez bit the Italian in the World Cup so he could force a move. There's no way he will do that again when he's with Barca.

I wonder why Van Dijk doesn't have a BOC or maybe he does but you'd expect his agent to have mentioned it by now?

Will be a mystery if a big club doesn't pay big money for him soon because as they say to build a great team you have to build from the back and there are a few brilliant attacking teams who are let down by their defence at the moment. Two obvious ones in the EPL are City and Liverpool and they could afford him.

Great business from Peter Lawell on this one, excellent.

Scary to think that this money and the possible sale of Bitton in January (4/5mil)
we will have 10mil to spend on two quality signings and this is before we even spend a penny of the 35mil we have generated from the champions league.

    Good times ahead!

That champions league money won't ve available till end of season (well the bulk of it made up by tv deals and payments from UEFA). I'm fully aware we wont get to spend it all directly on the squad, but if we do business right in January (move on the rest of the deadwood), and we do get a bit of money from the Virgil deal and someone like bitton leaving, then we should have a comfortable amount of money to actually strengthen this coming window

Hope he goes to Man City, not just for the money but under Guardiola he could cement himself as the best in the world in his position.

When we sold Virgil for £13 million (was £11.5 million rising to £13 million after appearances), I thought it was a steal, but now with the 10% sign on fee clause we added and the price of £50 million being quoted, that means the potential fee is actually £18 million. Very good piece of business on our side. Pete surely going about things in the right way. Pity Wanyama went for so cheap to Spurs.
