Didn't take long for him to start talking out his hole......learned more in 5 games in england than two years at celtic.:52:

VIRGIL VAN DIJK has claimed he has learned more in five games at Southampton than he did in his whole two-year spell in Scotland.

The Dutch defender has made a successful start in the EPL after leaving Celtic in the summer for £11.5million, a transfer fee that could see the Hoops rake in as much as £13.5m.

He scored against Swansea last month then helped Ronald Koeman’s side stun Chelsea 3-1 at the weekend.

And van Dijk admits the game in England is streets ahead of Scotland’s.

Speaking to NU Sport he said: "I’ve been in five games at Southampton learned and have much more than in the previous years, so I’m definitely going forward as a football player.

"The game is much faster in England than in Scotland.

"The midfield is sometimes like pinball, I had to get used to it."

I wouldn't say the game is faster in England. If anything it's more frantic here with the smaller sizes of pitches and how teams in the league generally play.

    I totally agree..

He probably, certainly has learned more in 5 back to back epl game's than he did here but describing it as pinball, isn't exactly covering it in glory..

Exactly, hes going to learn more from being tested a lot more and by better players.

Describing it as pinball though just highlights a lot of what is wrong with English football at the moment for me though. Football being played at a frantic pace is not the same thing as good quality football.

Of course he will learn but 5 games have taught him more than two years with us.....does not say much for our manager and coaches or the european games.

According to that article though he didn't specifically say "I've learned more in 5 games than I ever did at that shitehole league up north"

As usual with the press, his words might have been twisted a bit.

Then again, maybe not. However I'm not overly arsed, he's obviously going to be improving his game down there and be tested more. Perhaps that's what he is getting at, that he's been tested more in those 5 games than he ever was up here in any game, which is probably true.

The midfield being like pinball is one helluva back handed compliment.

In fairness I watched Everton/Liverpool and Lukaku aside seen nothing I would be concerned about if Celtic were to face either side. We control games better than both those teams.

I didn't mean in Europe, I'm assuming he is meaning in regards to the Scottish League.

Which, for near enough all the games, he absolutely strolled.

Yet he did not specify this. He said in the previous years which would have included European games.

    Well said.

The football down south is laughable when you compare it to a regular Spanish game or German game.

Of course he will improve. When did he have to defend in our team? We have the ball 70%+ of the time. He was playing as high up as the striker alot of the time :56: yet Kevin Wilson never let barca ship goals by him at will.
