Amazing how a fancy back heel and long range shot against Partick Thistle adds on another 5 million :56:

If we got 15 then I might just get Peter Lawwells face tattooed on my face.

Apart from being English, it's what puts the stones price up, the fact he's good on the ball. But add in, pace, strength, aerial dominance, passing ability, goals and even free kicks and it really is easy to see why he SHOULD go for more, but will no doubt not..

He's a far better player than John * Stones. Ludicrous to think there's such a big difference in price tags being attached to them.

If Stones was anywhere near as good as Virgil, he'd easily be going for £50 million.

Stones is English and plays in the top league in England - so they're always gonna fap themselves into a frenzy.

Virgil is definitely - as you say - as good as or if not BETTER than Stones, but the EPL is the BIG DAWG in terms of exposure and marketing so we're * for expecting to match fee for fee with them in that regards unfortunately :54:

It's that Andy Robertson scenario again, arguably closer but no way is Shaw worth 27 mill more but he's English and came from an Epl side..
I watched Stones for the under 21's in the euros against Italy and he was torn to shreds, just a couple months back..

Reading on the Saints Forums, going by they're fans they are dying for the big man to arrive. Some saying pay the asking price cause money isn't a worry, just pay it. Others saying they should sign our "replacement" for Virgil and cut out the middle man.

Would be great to get £15million, if Southampton or the likes bid we should reject it and call it an insult(even if it is £10million) as we know they will pay more £5million is heehaw even to wee diddy teams like Leicester now.

Southampton got £20million for Lovren who is just a poor mans Van Dijk, weaker in every aspect than Virgil.

We're not getting 15 million for him before he's done anything in the Champions League. That's what really bumps our players price up.

Problem we have there is, we'd definitely have to sell him in January because next Summer he will have 1 year left on his contract.

We will get around the 10 million figure and we can't be too unhappy with it.

They fat ugly wanks van Gaal and Hiddink have robbed us as well, he should have 15+ caps for the Netherlands by now as well, yet they havent given him a game for big dumplings like Martins Indi and Ron Vlaar or even other dafties like Rekik and Veltman.

If he was in his rightful place as a well capped International we'd probably have no bother getting £15million for him.

How the * are we going to replace him? Such a massive part of the way we play.

    Easily.

That's why I've always said I'd have him over Wanyama. He could play CB and Vic's position just as easily however it was clear that Wanyama was less comfortable in defence.

He's 1 player, we'll move on the same way we always do.

VVD is nowhere near as mobile. Seems to happen for any decent centre half we have, the support try and make them a centre mid.

    He's 100% a centre half IMO.

His ball play, box to box ability and shot are what makes him a special CB, considering how * immense he is at the back. Shrugs every man off the ball every time.

He's be well advised to join Southampton in that respect as he'd have the ultimate role model as a Manager.

Koeman has a strong shout for being the greatest attacking centre half of all time. Especially with his free kicks.

Brilliant game today. My MOTM again.

Just absolutely strolls the game like a boss.... anyone got a clip of his turn?..Only one negative I'd pick (have to! :56: ) is he doesnt help izzy atall with his passes. Needs to judge his weight of pass more, thought Izzy did a great job of controlling them though.

Worth every bit of 10 million and more!

I hope we pay the asking price and get the deal done. Reading your comments on this guy has me even more convinced. We are desperate for a starting CB to play alongside Fonte.

We have done extremely well in the transfer market in recent times and I like to think Saints play fair. As has been mentioned on this thread, Saints are a no-mark team with * all history and we are extremely fortunate to be in the position we are in. I don't want us to become scumbags as well.

However, since administration (that guy talking semantics about our administration is a numpty) we are trying to be self sufficient and not go down the spend, spend, spend route. I can understand Saints trying to bargain for a good deal. I hope we play fair though as Celtic have been great to deal with in recent years. It would be a shame to break that goodwill that seems to exist.

I can understand you guys wanting a bidding war, we wanted someone to come in for Clyne as well as Liverpool as he only had a year left. Sadly no one did so he went for a bit less than he was probably worth.

It has to be said, modern football is a bit crap really isn't it? Celtic, one of the giants of World football having to sell to Saints. Ridiculous. Meanwhile we continue to produce our own players and develop teams only to be pillaged when on the verge of competing. I often ask myself... what is the point?

All the best, keep the faith.

    Hail Hail
    Up The Saints

^^ I like this guy whenever he appears.

Got to be noted the now mate, both clubs are in a fantastic position to push on from when they currently are. It'll come with challenges of losing top performers but right now the two clubs can be happy.

Wow. Never seen a more reasoned fan of another club on here before.

I've said before, when Virgil does go I hope it's Southampton he ends up. They suit him down to the ground, and Paul made a fantastic point, Koeman is the perfect manager to take Virgil under his wing. So to speak.

Have a lot of time for Southampton actually. They've been very fair with their fees for Forster and Wanyama, and seem to recruit very well.
