He presumably doesn't even know I exist, let alone give a * what I think of him. Whether he would give a * what thousands of Celtic fans think of him is an open question, but in fact I was merely pointing out why some fans have been posting on here that they would lose respect for him if he went to Norwich. I doubt anybody cares whether Virgil cares what they think of him: that's the thing about opinions, you (hopefully) hold them because you think they are true and not out of some bizarre desire to make a point to Virgil Van Dijk.

Regarding that bit in bold; the flaw in your reasoning is that playing for Norwich is not, in fact, the exact same thing as playing for Celtic unless you are totally indifferent to winning things, being a part of a global cultural institution, magical European nights, etc, etc. It'd be more akin to offering to quadruple someone's wages to do the same job but with much that made it meaningful and worthwhile removed- maybe an artist without artistic freedom of expression or a nurse moving to a new job where they couldn't help people as much. We don't have to speculate, history shows that when offered such choices, some people accept and some don't.

Footballers are the same as everyone else in this respect: for some money is high on their list of motivations; for others, not so high. It all depends on the priorities of the individual concerned and the short career makes no difference to that because it's a short career for all the other things footballers want to achieve, not just the money.

Well, I'd play for Celtic for £25,000 a year. :smiley-laughing002:

I was hinting at what Random Review said.

I'd understand southampton, there like the English version of us. We sell to the EPL, Southampton then sell on to the big boys.

Look at Lubo (every bit as talented as Virgil). Looking back at 50, what does he regret most from his playing days? Not finding Celtic earlier in his career. It's worth thinking about that for a moment.

No doubt in my mind that if he'd come 3 years earlier, he'd be spoken of on the same level as Larsson.

I don't think Virgil wants to move for money (he wants to reach the very top of the game, which is sadly impossible in the SPL these days) and that's why he won't be joining Norwich. I honestly think that in the unlikely event that an Everton, Spurs or Southampton didn't come in for him (they will!), he'd stay rather than go to Norwich.

It's frustrating that teams that are well below us are funded by the league they play in and can come steal our players.

It also appears that many players are viewing us as a stepping stone now.

If we think its bad now too, give it 2 years and it will get a lot worse.

Starting in the 2016/17 season, the EPL TV money will go up by 70%, meaning the teams that get relegated will all get £90million+ each. While Celtic £2.3million for winning the SPL.

Celtic would probably need to sell our two best players and win the Champions League to get over £90million in a year, while the likes of a Burnley would only need to turn up and they've pocketed it before a shirt, ticket or pie is sold or a penny has been recieved from sponsors.

In 2 years time 20 of the probably about 25 richest teams in he world will be the 20 teams playing in the EPL.

A team like Bournemouth will be as rich or richer than teams like Inter, Roma, Atletico Madrid, Valencia... just by playing in the EPL.

Bah, let them get on with it. The more they keep pumping that bubble, the quicker it'll burst.

It won't though, they keep getting more and more money every 3 years and theres no sign of it ending. Meanwhile the SPL still get the same amount of money we were getting 15 year ago.

We'll probably find in 10 years time nobody teams like Sheffield United and Doncaster will be bidding £5million for our best players hoping to get promoted into the EPL. While we scrape the barrel for signings and try to sign English 3rd tier level players.

All bubbles burst in the end. Problem is that it may be 2 years or 20 and they really are good at the marketing aspect. Nevertheless, the more broadcasting companies keep bidding unrealistic sums for the rights, the sooner someone will blink and it'll all start unraveling.

And we'll be waiting 100's more.

15 year ago the EPL winners were getting roughly 10 times what the SPL were, fair enough considering England is 10x the size of Scotland. But in 2 years time the EPL winners will be getting about 70x what the SPL winners are getting.

And considering our TV money never goes up you wouldnt put it past us having to literally win 70 in a row from 2016 onwards just to match the TV money someone like Chelsea could get just in that 1 season, we will be dead and buried long before we get near it :smiley-laughing002::54:

Aye it'll never burst now, there is so much money kicking about down there now with sponsors etc that TV companies will continually pump money into it as they know it's a safe bet profit wise.
