I reckon Southampton may be a done deal and they will wait until our CL destiny has been sorted, much like the Forster deal before the Legia fiasco developed.

We seem to have a good working relationship with them and trust has been built with our previous deals.

Perfect move for him with Koeman at the helm championing his International asspirations as well as learning from a master ball playing CB.

And Southampton pay a fair price.

If he leaves us for Norwich then wow I will be speechless at his lack of ambition

Same , would be a * joke . Hooper is from North Essex so Norwich is relatively local and he could see alot more of his family - plus he wanted to be laying in Ingurland so the mighty Ingurland manager would make him an international superstar . Plus he was about half the player VVD is . For Van Dijk to go to Norwich would be incredibly unambitious .

When you're a multi-millionaire it doesn't matter where you live.

Yes because moving to one of the most popular leagues in the world and quadrupling your wages is a lack of ambition?

Like anyone on here would knock that back given the chance.

He's just a white Efe Ambrose.

He can't exactly dictate who comes in a makes a bid for him, can he?

He could but I really doubt he would.

    1. his wages will increase by a fair bit.
    2. he is confident in his ability and thinks moving to club like Norwich and putting in performances like he can on a consistent basis will see him snapped up pretty quickly by a bigger club.

Given the chance of playing for Celtic and earning £25,000 week or moving to Norwich City and earning £50,000 a week, I'd opt for the former every time.

Yes but you were born and raised in Scotland and a Celtic supporter, obviously to us we hold Celtic in a much higher regard.

However, from a foreigners point a view with no emotional ties to the club what so ever, it's a very different situation and more often than not the "goal" is to hit one of the big leagues.

Yes I get that some players buy into our whole ethos like Izzy for example and that's great and wish more players would but you can't begrudge a player that doesn't.

Agreed, and not just because I'm a tim either.

25k a week until you are 35 is more than enough to live on for the rest of your life if used wisely.

I'd rather the lesser wage and the success and adulation than bigger wages but fighting relegation and struggling all the time.

    That's just me though.

Every * for the most part wants to make as much as possible regardless of how much you get paid.

Footballers, yes while they are rich, certainly don't possess "* you" money and their careers ain't that long.

VVD could break his leg in 6 months and never kick a ball again, that extra 10k/20k a week would come in handy.

People have to get real. If Ajax, Feyernoord or PSV had made an offer for him he would would have gone to them and stayed in Holland. No matter what we think, 99% of players will think playing in the EPL and earning more money at Bournemouth in front of 14k is a step up from playing for us. It's *, but it's just the way it is at the moment.

Yup, I find it odd that people say "it's a short career" as an argument for putting money first, as if it weren't also a short career for all the other things you hope to achieve as a footballer (medals, glory, being a part of history, etc). The fact that it's a short career doesn't change the fact that players will choose based on their own priorities. That's why a lot of fans would lose respect for him if he went to Norwich, it's a move you would only make for money in the opinion of many of us.

He won't do it though, because he wants to build something in his career and is not merely a money-grabbing c*** like certain players.

See that first part just isn't true and it's probably the biggest myth of our time. Every man and woman needs to feed themselves their family but beyond that people differ massively in how much they are motivated by money. Lots of people choose careers they know are not lucrative because it is what they want to do with their lives. The health service depends on them for just one example.

Your example of the career-ending injury is a perfect illustration. True, if he turns down a move to Norwich and his career is ended in (say) a year, he may regret not earning the extra money; on the other hand he could equally well move there, get that same injury and regret not having one last shot at the CL. It all depends on what his motivation is in the first place and any hypothetical injuries don't change that.

Well yes it is a short career so I don't find how that is odd for having monetary gain as a main priority, he will have a family to look after ye know?

and it is not "the biggest myth of our time" :smiley-laughing002: yes people want to feed their family etc but you sit people down and tell them they can get a new job doing the exact thing they are doing now but your wages will be more than quadrupled, are you trying to say more people would refuse than accept?

And I don't think he really gives a flying * about "your respect" for him.
