Here my take on it guys. We all know he has great physique and his strength shows on the park he's head and shoulder above the rest of the defenders in the league I appreciate that and I reckon all our fans do aswell. (BUT) When he stated now on numerous occasions about moving on from Celtic to be touted for big things in the EPL then now is the time to sell because we can get money for him to buy a direct replacement. Imo I will be gutted when he goes but his want away attitude is sickening me for a while now and a think it's time for Ronny to build over him because his head clearly doesn't lie in a Celtic Strip. So punt him for 10 mill no less

His European performances don't really impact his price too much as it still means he has 2 good seasons of experience(of which many EPL defenders don't have), for me it's more that he somehow never got in the Holland squad that could limit the price, I'd expect 10-12 but if he had been in the WC squad could be looking at 15M+.

He was. I was really impressed with him once we got to the group stages.

He should be in that Holland squad by now. He should at least have been given the opportunity in a friendly.

Aye, there's no way he's not good enough to compete with the likes of Martins-Indi, Vlaar, etc. The only one I've seen who I rate as highly as Van Dijk is De Vrij.

Yeah he should of at least been taken to the WC even just to sit on the bench, he will be their main CB soon, look at the rest of the team, Fraser made his England debut while here, Guidetti broke back into the Sweden team, Ambrose has always been a starter for Nigeria.
It's not as if Holland are blessed with beastly centre halfs that can play from the back and score free kicks, beyond belief.

Was thinking the same, though Vlaar was * hot in the WC.

<section class="post-content">i note the following news aricle and is so true. Unforunately, you really can not blame the stars for wanting to leave Celtic. Some diehards on here go on about the glory for playing for Celtic. The league is rubbish and Celtic would well served by playing in a much better league, where they are rested every week , nit just when theyu play 6 games in Europe. Other Mangers know it is a pish league and that is why the top Celtic foreign players find it hard to be recognised by their international.home based managers. And then of course the cash they could earn in say the EPL or lower division is much more than they earn at Celtic. Ah , if onlyCeltic was in a better league, .......

The Bhoys are being let down by those around them.

When John Guidetti spoke of a lack of 'big games' in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic fans were unimpressed.
The 23-year-old's comments, to all intents and purposes, looked like a cop out. Guidetti couldn't cut the mustard at Parkhead and so decided to pretend it was the other way round. That's how some supporters saw it.
When Virgil van Dijk recently made similar comments about the state of Scottish football, however, things were a little different.
Dutchman Van Dijk has been a loyal servant to Celtic and, despite appearing to be doing everything he can to earn a move this summer, has proved himself with the Bhoys.
And, whether it's Guidetti, Van Dijk, Fraster Forster, Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper or anyone else, the theme remains consistent: the lack of competition in Scotland is coming back to haunt Celtic.
Indeed, when it comes to competition at Parkhead, players can look forward to - in a realistic best-case scenario - six games of Champions League football a season. Does that make up for what is increasingly being seen as a weak league?
Player comments in recent weeks would suggest not. And that's the biggest problem Celtic are facing and will continue to face in the transfer market.
In essence, the Scottish champions are paying a dear price for the lack of quality that surrounds them. It isn't really their fault and it doesn't really seem fair. But that's the harsh reality of the situation.

He was great at the WC, but had the protection of playing in a back 3 with pretty mobile guys around him. Not as good in a traditional CB pairing as Van Dijk, imo.

Look at what Bitton just said then, he's staying because he loves the city and playing for Celtic and the direction we are moving. Many players see us as a stepping stone to the EPL which is good in the way we get some brilliant players in for a few seasons, we are a selling club and will be for a long time.
Guidetti acts as if he deserves to be at a top club and paid 30K per week when he could only score 8 goals in 24 games in an apparent * league.
They don't need to come out and say this *, Virgil is following what Guidetti is saying.
All we are asking Virgil is to stay for qualifiers then take his pick of the clubs that come in for him.

In a couple of years Virgil will be better without a doubt, but I think one thing that puts managers off Virgil a bit is when he goes on runs up the pitch leaving the back exposed, it's easy to cover for him in the SPL but in EPL it's a big risk. A bit like David Luiz.

I think most of the time he does that it's because he's bored. In a better league he'd likely do it less as he'd be busier/under more pressure.

Fair play to the guy. He's a cut above the rest. I would rather he stayed on but if his hearts not in it, then it's time to cash in on him, thank him for his service, wish him all the best and then rebuild with the money made from his sale.

Present situation is not too bad . Ronnie seems to know how to press from the front. I am worried about the guys subjected to the counter attack. The right back position needs to be solid. When Lustig is there it is fine. When Matthews is there it could be risky. He is very fast but is like a winger.
Isa is the same. So we are left vulnerable to the counter down the flanks.
We need to solidify the back 4, have one really creative midfielder in the centre and two new strikers.

If we're not getting close to £10m, don't bother.
