Yeah his actions are really inconsiderate to us (his club)... We've picked him up, improved him slightly gave him a shot of the Europa and this year maybe a crack at the CL. Without us not many other teams would have saw his potential. Like look at bitton, he's had offers from Sunderland n whoever else and he has come out and said he wants to stay here. I respect that, who knows maybe next year it will be different but now I think he knows what's best for him by staying

He also had a year in the CL when he first signed.

It's just ungrateful, last year I remember him saying if we don't get champions league football he wants to leave. Shocking carrying it's just a shame that he's such a great talent in a position we haven't been strong in in recent years

He is just a sulky bast*rd!

Worse thing is i dont expect Ronny to see 1p of it when he is sold as it would need to cover not making the CL like Forsters did last season! If we dont make it and lets be honest will he see any of it even if we qualify?

just get rid no point keeping a unhappy player and try and get someone in before the champions league games so we can have a consistent centre backs playing together before we start playing the qualifiers.

Has anyone that thinks we should get rid before the qualifiers actually watched us in the qualifiers ? We don't do quick replacements, we do Mouyokolo in the deep end against 11 of Borat's tallest friends.

I don't really think 6 games out of 50 is enough tbh. He won't progress as much in those games as in a full season playing in a good league. He's a cracking player and I'd hate to lose him. But it's gonna happen at some point.

As for the contract. We all know that's not how it works, aye he "committed" for 4 years but how often is that the case for the really top players we have? Wasn't for Wanyama, wasn't for Forster.

Pretty much this. It's been clear for a while that he needs to play in a bigger league to attract national team interest. I don't hold it against him. I'd much rather he is honest with us.

It was the same with Hooper to an extent. We all knew it was his big ambition to play in the premiership and none of us were that surprised he went.

Face that up against some like Guidetti who just ran down his loan and * off at the first opportunity, blaming the league.

Their is a certain freshness to players being upfront about their ambitions and realising them. Whilst we play in Scotland this will always be the case.

Slightly different when Bangura said he was using us as a stepping stone the first day he signed though :smiley-laughing002:

Qualifiers first big Virg, then good luck and KERCHING! :bbpd:

Virgil is exactly the type of commanding CB that could take Arsenal and United back into the EPL title frame. I've said from the start that he is potentially of a world-class quality.

Do I want to see him go? Obviously not. But would I begrudge him a move to a bigger stage if that is what he's set his sights on? No.

He never excelled on the European stage the same way Wanyama and Forster did, I won't hold him in particularly high esteem if he goes. They both left when their time was up and staying would probably have led to their development stagnating, I haven't seen much evidence that Van Dijk has reached that level.

Good post. He needs to string together at least 3 good CL group performances before we'll get the optimum price for him, imo. Until then, he can bide his time, as far as I'm concerned. Wouldn't be against selling him late in August, but would rather January, after (hopefully) some good CL games.

The problem is VVD and his agent going to the papers publicly...

Why don't they just talk to all of those big club's scouts when they are watching him play at Celtic Park..:97:

I'm not for one minute saying that Virgil might of stayed but I don't think it helps us when you have 2 loan players from England, who were pals with Virgil, not having any intention of staying. One because he has an ego problem and one who everyone knows is quite rightfully destined for the very, very top..

Hopefully, as hard as it is, if we go down the loan route, get players in who MIGHT see a future here. Might make the next 10 million player think twice from leaving this club, too soon..

To get maximum value we probably need to sell him in this transfer window. I think we will end up getting a bid between 10 & 12 mil. Lets be realistic and say the teams from bigger leagues are hesitant to pay more than that for players playing in Scotland. The only hope for more money would be add ons like after X caps or X club appearances.

We will be lucky to break 10 million for the guy, we lost to many goals in europe this year.

Completely agree mate, I think if we get offered 8 then thats a fair enough price for me given that he has never performed consistently in Europe. Think he has a few gaps in his game that would get punished in the EPL vs top class strikers, like pushing forward too much etc.

When he goes all the best to him,he wants a move,so be it,has been brilliant for us and a joy to watch sometimes, hope he does well,no problem with him selling himself what so ever to an English club

Agreed. I expect we'll get about £8million for van Dijk if he moves on. I understand his desire to play at a higher level but his performances for us in Europe tell me he still has some improving to do in order to be a top quality centre-back.
