Even think back to the World Cup, Costa Rica almost knocked them out in the Quarters, if theyd have lost those penalties they'd be in an absolutley horrific run of form, really sneaked into the World Cup semis.

The Scotland Belgium game was 2 year ago as well. Courtois, Alderwiereld, Witsel, Nainnggolan, Hazard, De Bruyne, Lukaku, Benteke etc are all better than then and them overall as a team.

Even then, he's playing with De Vrij and Janmaat and Blind at full-back, even with a glorious world class player like Van Dijk thats still a bad defence. They also lack defensive solidity in midfield.

Virgil would be tearing his hair out crying out for the likes of Brown, Bitton, Lustig and Denayer

 

The best thing about Virgil is how he controls the other parts of defence, like scott brown in midfield, he has been integral to denayers massive success this season and I have no doubt about it

 

Are you ok? Janmaat is a good player, Blind starts for Man United and had a great World Cup and De Vrij has been one of the best defenders in Serie A this season.

 

Janmaat and Blind are average at best by usual Netherlands standards considering they usually regularly produce the likes of Rijkaard, Gullit, Stam, F.de Boer, Seedorf, Davids, Bergkamp, van Nistelrooy, van Persie, Sneijder, van der Vaart, Danny Blind, van der Sar, Robben, Winter, N.de Jong, R.Koeman, Cocu and many others. de Vrij is decent.

Current Netherlands team is poor by their standards, especially defensively as they dont really have any decent defensive midfielders either, Strootman has been goosed for about 2 year and de Jong doesnt really play for them much now.

 

There's a reason Blind doesn't start left back for them though, he's not very good there. Out of position a lot.

People seem to be throwing around some pretty hefty numbers. Doubt we could get 10m never mind 12. Very few centre halves go for 10m+ and these epl teams know they have us bent over. Most bottom half table teams don't even spend 12m on a striker.

 

No one has us "bent over" in the case of Van Dijk.
