    Aye.

The 'not leaving for a lesser club' stuff I really struggle to buy into as well. Most of the clubs interested will be classed as lesser, at least in our eyes, not sure about his.

His change of attitude has been pretty insane though, I agree. I just worry that if we do win the treble and it all dies down a little he will feel as though he has achieved everything?

His positivity might only be around because of the fact we are still chasing trophies. Come summer time I could see him having a different mindset.

Hopefully not. As you say, at the very least I think he will stay to see out the qualifiers.

Nail on head Slaw, there is no way he will sign an extention, and to keep an unhappy player who would only cost us in the end, makes no sense.

If we can keep him for the qualifiers great, then off to Stoke or Swansea or whomever it may be,and the best of luck to him.

Just a sign of the times.

For me at least, that's true. Always been neutral towards Celtic (until Deila took over), and that's how "big" I've thought of you as - right behind the EPL top four. A CL-team is a CL-team though, so bigger than EPL Europa League sides.

But to modern footballers it's not about "big" or "small", it's not even about "trophies" - it's about money. And to my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), wages at Celtic are lower than at every single club in the EPL, and probably quite a few Championship clubs as well.

In other words, it doesn't take a Southampton, Everton or Tottenham to lure players away from Celtic. Might as well be f'ing Burnley or Leicester. I mean, didn't Hooper leave Celtic for Norwich? Freaking Norwich!

Only goes to show where it's all at; money talks. Now players have caught up with the fact that they're generally seen as money grabbers, so they come up with new ridiculous excuses like "wanting to play in this and that league" or "wanting to win trophies", but it's all just hogwash.

It's about the money, and it's perfectly understandable too. The amount of money a plain average player can make in the right league/club is ridiculous, and I doubt any of us would turn that down. On top of that, they have short careers, so they want to get what they can while they can.

If you want an honest view on the thought-process of a modern footballer, then check out this infamous interview with former Tottenham player Assou-Ekotto (fair play to the lad):

Koeman could work wonders for him.

Play well at Southampton as well and you can win a so called 'big' move as we have seen. You can see why he'd go there.

High chance of European football there as well, if only the Europa.

It just makes sense to keep him for another season at least the qualifiers ,, a player of his his quality could be the difference between us getting 18 million atleast from the champions league . If we lose a couple million of his price tag so be it well have a stronger team for the groups and the chance to earn more money with virgil.

Problem is lawell will probably think well be strong enough without either centre back for the qualifiers.

If we do qualify I think he'd stay, at least until January. Hopefully we could somehow get him to extend his deal by a year so we'd get the CL money and still have the bargaining tool of a 2 year deal on him, meaning we still get the best price.

That's the ideal scenario, for me.

Hopefully * sign a new contract too boost the price while knowing he can leave at the end of next season. 3 seasons out of virgil will be enough.

He's going to Southampton. £8-10million. Forster, Elia & Koeman. Top 7, potentially top 5 team.

They made 30m on transfers. It all makes sense.

I hope we rip someone off for a change.

Wanyama is worth the £12m. Hooper was worth the £4m. Forster, Ki etc were all good deals for their buyers. Let's get a deal where we can say 'Aye we did well to get that for him.' Why should we take £7/8m ?

There isn't a chance in * he will be here next season . That was ( and still should be ) an established fact.

He will be gone by August to battle it out for ninth in the EPL, oh the glory .

Southampton's Toby Alderweireld will either be back to Atletico from his loan. Atletico won't allow first option on him to Southampton for 1.5M because Atletico know Man City are interested in him also. More than 1.5M in that transfer.

Southampton will need a new CB, they didn't get Van Dijk last summer so took Toby on loan in the meanwhile, it allowed them more time to assess Virgil, to which it's believed he has impressed.

I expect, if they choose to go for Virgil, they won't * around and will pay what we ask for. No doubt we will bang 10Million on his head, Southampton will pay 9 in the end.

They might just pay what we want - there was no messing about with Forster. We asked for £10m - they gave us it.

Might be the fact he is worth it and also English - which is a bonus and helps their quota.

Plus, Fraser was proven in the Champions League. I think anyone can see Van Dijk's a £10m+ player, though. I'd be disappointed if we sold him for less.

Exactly. I actually think with the new T.V. deals, there won't be much haggling or squabbles over the negotiating - £10m is pocket change now. They've also posted record turnover and profit so they aren't struggling.

May depend on how badly the buying club needs him - do Southampton badly need Van Dijk, or will they? I haven't been keeping track of them in a while.

That is assuming its Southampton - could be anyone. :smiley-laughing002:

I think the majority of English top flight clubs would badly need a player with Van Dijk's qualities and potential.

Alot of bang average centre half's down there.

I would have thought we got the better end of the ki deal since he wasn't getting in the team at the time.
