The hope is, if we can do a Forster, well almost, and keep him for the qualifiers then if we don't qualify he can go and even if we do, he can go with our best wishes if that's what he wants..
Ideal scenario as I don't think a champs league team will be in for him..

Brilliant to hear from the big man seems to have changed his tune i think it has a lot to do with his defensive partner. Somebody he can trust can you imagine being as good as he is and your playing with an absolute donkey in ambrose making you look bad? Would love if we can keep him and denayer for another year easily one of the best pairings in the country.

I ️kinda read that as if it's not a club as big or bigger than celtic he will
Stay here get better and get a big club * your Southampton and sunderlands

he's been a great servant to the club in his short time here. Delighted with the fact he has given 100% this year instead of getting in a huff.

Good comments to hear from him here again. I think he believes in what Ronny is doing here so it'll take more than the likes of Stoke to prise him away from us.

It's great to see so many of our squad have completely bought into what Deila is teaching and preaching. There seems to be a real belief within the squad that they can all improve as individuals and we can improve collectively as a team with Deila in charge and that can only be a massive positive in trying to keep our better players from the allure of moving down south. There's a great feeling around our club right now and Deila deserves alot of credit for that.

There isn't a chance in * he will be here next season . We will keep him for the qualifiers then flog him in August , best for both parties .Player will get his move to the EPL to get beaten every other week and finish thirteenth and the club will get their 10 or so mill while he still has a bit left on his contract.

Totally agree the quicker everyone comes to terms with losing both Virgil and Denayer, the better for us all.

If he does decide he wants to stay for another season he's going to have to sign a contract extension. No way we can keep him here and let his contract run down and only get £4/5m for him next summer.

I don't think he'll stay by the way

To be fair, 13th placed teams are usually your West Hams, Swansea, Newcastle etc.

One good season there in the overeaction theatre (EPL) and you're on the fast track to a top 4/5 side. Play half decent there and you're sorted. All of this whilst picking up a minimum of £30k a week, which will only increase.

I'm just surprised he knuckled down and kept his head together this season, rather than dragging his heels.

So, he's been linked to Sunderland, Arsenal and Southampton?

Sunderland are pish and will possibly be a Championship team next season..

Arsenal just bought a new center half in January for 11m, if they wanted Virgil I'm sure that would have been enough to get him..

Southampton are the only realistic possibility imo.. were going to look like a feeder club to them ffs, Forster, Wanyama and now Virgil :smiley-laughing002:

I'm optimistic that we'll get one more year outta him though.

I think we'll keep him and sell him in January. Keeping VVD might convince Denayer to partner up with him for another year as well.

Still think he will be gone this summer. Said that he thinks he didn't get called up for the Dutch squad because they don't take the Scottish SPFL serious in the Netherlands and tbh. I think he's right...most don't. Well * them!

I reckon Southampton will be having another of our players as they'll loose Fonte in the summer to one of the big boys (probably Liverpool).

We feed Southampton, they feed Liverpool! We should cut out the middle man and convince Liverpool to pay silly money for our players.

For a while their backline regularly included Boruc, Hooiveld and Danny Fox.

I think he will be off but I agree with the comment about being surprised he has knuckled down and done his best instead of going in the huff, remember he is Dutch and they have a superiority complex built in.

p.s. RD knows he is away and will be making plans to find a replacement.

I still can't see him staying.

I'd love him to stay. Favourite player along with Johansen right now but if we receive a decent bid it would be hard to see him sticking around.

Reason I am so sceptical is due to his past comments, to be honest. He could very easily have his head turned.

Completely agree, and I also don't think we can hold that against him.

When his last rumoured moved was denied by Ronny, he was left out of the squad to "get his head right." It was pretty clear that he was in a bit of a huff about it.

But it's how he's reacted to that which is important. Both his performances and attitude have improved enormously over the last 6 months.

I also love he fact how he is speaking in the press these days. He is very positive about the club, making the right noises and focusing on his football. This is exactly the right way to behave. If his performances attract a suitable admire with £10m+ in his back pocket ten I will wish him all the best.

Hopefully he can play for the qualifiers though :50:

Just makes you think, what is his definition of a lesser club? You'd have to go to the top 6 in the EPL to get to the level of a club being "bigger" than Celtic. And that's probably the neutral fans' view. As fans of Celtic, I guess we'd shorten down that list to the top 3 in EPL.

But as VVD said himself, many things can happen in football, so this could well be playing for the gallery.

The optimist in me says it's a fair to good chance he'll stay, he may even write a contract extension.

The pessimist in me says it's a 30/70 chance he'll sign an extension.

I think he might want one more crack at the CL. He'll play the qualifiers - if we get in be stays ( until Xmas unless we progress) - if somehow we don't make it he goes, catastrophe all round.

Edit: Didn't mean to quote the above post.
