I fear for when he goes, which is almost inevitable. Defence is shaky enough as it is.

The fact Ambrose is first choice, or is our probably only choice is worrying.

Happy never see him play for us again, complete bombscare.

I couldn't give a * if we sign anyone or sell anyone in this window.

We won't get out of the group in the Europa and we'll still win the league so what's the actual point

    * man utd need defenders. None of the top defenders are going there, the manager is from the same country and we might even get more for him as they are paying anything for players

The Magpies have been linked with a bid for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk and the Bhoys Champions League loss could see a move come to fruition.

Celtic’s shock early exit from this season’s Champions League could prove to be a blessing to Newcastle United and their chances of landing highly-rated Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk.
Reports previously indicated that the Magpies were keen on a move for the 23-year-old, who has impressed at Parkhead since moving to the Bhoys from Eredivisie side Groningen in a deal worth £2.6 million last summer.
Celtic are thought to have slapped an £8 million price tag on the player’s head, but that has not put Newcastle off pursuing a move, with the Magpies keen to add some much-needed quality to their current backline options.
And while any potential move remains speculation, it was widely thought that the lure of playing in the Champions League this season would have been enough to convince Van Dijk to remain at Parkhead another year with Newcastle offering little in the way of European football.

But with Celtic suffering a surprise 1-0 loss at home to Slovenian champions NK Maribor, the Dutch youngster’s future has been thrown into doubt, with the Hoops now dropping down to the Europa League.

Newcastle could face stiff competition for Van Dijk, however, with some sources indicating that La Liga side Sevilla are also weighing up a move for the player.
Either way a move to one of Spain or England and a more competitive league system could also help Van Dijk ultimately earn a call up to the Holland national side, having previously represented the Oranje at under-19 and under-21 level.

The Dutchman could yet be the subject of a surprise bid from elsewhere too, with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City both thought to be keen admirers of his talents.

Louis van Gaal could certainly do with some defensive reinforcements at Old Trafford, following a difficult start to his reign at the club which has see the Red Devils fail to win any of his first three competitive games in charge.

I wouldn't rule out a move to Man United if they are aware of his situation, watching their game last night Virgil would walk into that backline.

We should be asking more than 8m imo, Chambers went to arsenal for 16m, Luke Shaw went to man u for 30m ffs neither are as good or as bad as big Virgil.

The only team I'd want him to go to in the Premier League is Everton. Got a real soft spot for them and he suits their playing style down to the ground.

#Celtic's Virgil van Dijk:“It is difficult to say if this defeat will have an influence on my future. I want to play at the highest level."

Van Dijk spoke to @NOSsport: “I am a #Celtic player for now but we'll see what happens. The transfer window is open until Monday night.”

Clearly wants out. Think him speaking to press like that is disrespectful to us tbh, we signed him from a side that Aberdeen knocked out of europe this season and he has hardly set the 'top-level' alight with his performances

Derisory offer. In fact, embarrassing to say the least.

Diddy club and facing another season fighting against relegation until the last day no doubt. Think it's best for Celtic and Virgil to just assume Sunderland are taking the * and not respond.
