Exactly, mate. I actually quite rated Tugay (who actually did OK down south or at least wasn't totally shown up like Boumsong) but Boumsong actually is a good example: who ever really thought he was that great apart from the same idiots in our media who thought Moravcik was a waste of £300k? Although he strolled it up here, his limitations were fairly obvious to any thinking person. Similarly, nobody thinks Commons is worth £12m in spite of the fact that he's an absolute star in the SPL (not that Commons is a Boumsong, he's a decent player!).

We're not stupid and we're not basing our assessment of Van Dijk on how easy he finds it in the SPL. We're basing it on our judgement of his obvious skill and intelligence. Boumsong shouldn't even be mentioned in the same thread as him, let alone the same post.

 

Look, all I was saying was Van Dijk is quite obviously more valuable than Boumsong already. It's a simple comparison. Obviously teams looking to bid are not going to take that into account, neither are Celtic. Its just a reason why I would be disappointed to let him go for that price.

8m seems low for Van Dijk. I would say we should be asking for at least double that.

In all seriousness, I doubt there are many centre backs across Europe that can not only defend, but also finish the way that VVD can.

 

Teams should be built around guys like big Virgil but its not the Celtic way or should i say the Lawwell way, first offer of 7 million plus he's offski.

looking at the list of defenders they have...It's an embarrassment that he's left out.

 

As much as we know Virgil has talent I'd be really wary of his defensive attributes if I was in charge of Holland, I mean the only time he's been tested is in the group stages of the CL and we conceded quite a lot of goals then.

 

You can just tell when a player is good. Like David Marshall this season despite conceding all the time.

It's a travesty that he hasn't been called up, no two ways about it.
