Vaclav Hladky's agent has opened up on a potential move to Celtic as the Ipswich Town number one nears the end of his contract.
Brendan Rodgers' side have been on the look-out for a goalkeeper to add competition to undisputed number one Joe Hart with the likes of Real Madrid shot-stopper Andriy Lunin emerging as a potential target. The Ukraine goalkeeper will be able to open pre-contract talks with other clubs from January 1 with the view to joining on bargain a free transfer in the summer - and former St Mirren goalkeeper Hladky is in the same position.
The Czech star left the Buddies in 2020 and after a success season at Salford City before he was snapped up by The Tractor Boys - helping them to earn a spot in the English Championship last term. Boss Kieran McKenna has put Ipswich on course for a second consecutive promotion for the English Premier League - but Hladky's future remains up in the air.
Czech outlet iSport report that the Scottish Premiership leaders have shown an "interest" in the goalkeeper with a view to a pre-contract deal. Asked about interest from Celtic the player's agent Martin Stepanovsky said: "We have some teams registering inquiries, which is understandable given Vaclav's performances, the position of Ipswich and the expiring contract. However, the priority is to agree on an extension and advance to the Premier League."

From what I hear, he’s a reliable shot-stopper with excellent distribution, but isn’t the most commanding or the best at organising his defence, apparently.

Hladky eh? Was Dorus de Vries unavailable? I used to just dismiss rumors like this. Then came a period of thinking surely not. Now I just assume it to be true. The standard of player we are currently being linked with is terrifying.

Get this so far to * and when it’s got there get it to * again.
Only even remotely an option if we are ridding ourselves of the entire goalkeeping dept and he’s a number 2 at absolute best.Peej likes this. -
Am i losing my head or did he used to olay for St Mirren :giggle1:
Hradecky on the other hand would get us all excited -

At 33 years old, I’m not convinced he’s the answer but a quick look on the Ipswich forums and he’s very highly regarded down there. Apparently the favourite to be their player of the season and on a pre contract agreement for a couple of seasons, would it really be the worst answer?
Not completely against it like some are, especially if it allowed us the ability to use cash in other areas we need to upgrade on. -

Sounds like another * DeVriesesque signing. The guy concedes loads.

De Vries, Bain & Seighrest we've a good record taking a punt on these types of keepers. What could go wrong??
-
To be fair, we need 2 GK'S over the next two windows, as it's likely both Hart and Siegrist will leave.
Sign a replacement for Hart in January, agree a pre-contract with Hladky and we'd be in a decent position there.
Obviously if its Hladky as a replacement for Hart, that'd be extremely underwhelming, but I'd hope we haven't sunk that low. -
