With the English sides, I think it comes down to two main things - a failure in tactics and mentality. Tactically, they don't know how to go about beating the Juventus and Bayerns of this world even though on a player by player basis they may be more than a match, and they don't seem to have the mental strength to beat these teams consisently. I've noticed especially with Man City there's a certain naivety about their play, like they think they can just go out and play their game and expect to get something out of it at the end of it. You'd have thought Pellegrini would have sorted things out because Juventus were controlling the game in that first half, but no, they just saw it as an 0-0 and hoped for the best. You could see Juventus getting something out of the game from a mile off...but no, they got a lucky goal so they just kept it going. Then Mandzukic equalised, and then Morata scored and it's only like Pellegrini realised what was going on after that, but even then it was basically just stick Aguero on and hope for the best.

As I said, naivety at this level. Thought City wouldn't get out of the group and based on this performance they will need to step it up another couple of levels against Sevilla in order to beat them because they're definitely a team with tactical nous.

It would be different now, though.

Man City have a near enough limitless pile of cash.

No chance City are getting out that group. There is a massive hoodoo over their players now when it comes to the CL and it's not like in the league where they might have to go to an Aston Villa and get a result. They're going to places with big atmospheres and teams with clever and mentally better players. And what will happen next season? Clear out and buy a brand new, even more expensive, over priced team of players who can't hack it at the top level.

Did Man City not get good numbers prior to the major investment?? Maybe it's the stadium is to big in comparison to core support???

I attended a game against West Ham(Rio Ferdinand,Lampard,Joe Cole,Di Canio era)at Maine Road when they were in the Premiership (pre-investment), was sold out.

Man City are the gift that keeps on giving. I hate all the Premiership teams but they're always my first choice to go out.

So the UEFA League (Champions part is not valid) has started up.

Maybe they can invite the whole 22 teams (or whatever it is) into the League and England might get a winner again.

4/5 teams from one league is a joke, basically there is about 50-60% non-champions in that farce of a league.

Did anyone catch the BT Sports commentary just as the Juventus and City players were leaving the tunnel at the start talking about how City would face "some" problems, and how they wouldn't just "steamroller" Juventus? As if they were saying that they'd win relatively easily, but not completely hammer them probably.

Did anyone tell them they were talking about a team that was Champions League * finalists last season?!? A team who have ran away with the Italian league the past four years?

    * *! :smiley-laughing002:

And a team that is doing extremely poorly just now after losing key players. If City were ever going to do it, it was last night.

    They still weren't good enough.

Even with that in mind, you're not going to turn over Juventus that easily. They were talking as though it was a foregone conclusion almost.

I never heard that as I didn't watch it from the start. Shows you the arrogance that the English media have though. They were lucky they weren't facing the team that reached the final last year, or they would have been beaten by more. They were up against a good side, but not anywhere near as good as the one Juve had last year. I think it just highlights once again where English football is at. The standard of the teams in the league isn't all that great. None of the English teams will get close to winning it this year in my opinion.

Must admit I thought city were going to win last night, had them on -1. Seems yet again though on a European night they've simply failed to turn up. When aguero doesn't play they just look a totally different team, understandable I suppose given his quality. But they spent an unbeliavble amount on bony and he just doesn't look up to it. Said at the time I thought it was a poor signing considering the price. Good player but for the money they spent, they could of got better imo.

That's just it though, the commentators were talking as though Juventus were Malmo or something! Aye, they've lost some players but they've also added the likes of Mandžukić, Dybala, Zaza, Sandro, Cuadrado & Hernanes. None of those players are chumps.

And they still had the likes of Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Pogba and Morata.

No * is going to walk through a team like that, not Barca, not Madrid, not Munich, and certainly not * City.

Did you expect anything less from the commentators though? Overestimating English teams, and underestimating anyone outside the EPL bubble is par for the course from most English pundits.
