Bad for the English coefficient too as they are close to losing the 4th Champions League spot to Italy.

I think its bad coaching. United have LvG, City have Pellegrini...neither are that impressive, these days.

United should've got Guardiola in before he went to Bayern or someone like Klopp.

Maybe Bielsa. Probably only good for a season before the players starting complaining about burn-out; still, might get them a CL title. :smiley-laughing002:

It truly is. It's even better when you hear bitter wee fandans like Owen saying "it's almost embarrassing that united are losing this". No Michael, it is, but not for the delusional viewpoint your looking from..

Does he not see that this is far from a cash rich Dutch club, who ironically sold there best player to United, who've spent about 300 million. Aye, embarrassing alright..

I watched the city/Juve game mainly and Juve (who I despise), were terrific tonight. A tactical masterclass..

    Brilliant..

Would be good for everyone in Europe, plus it might mean there's more to play for in the league and we'd see less dull games like that Arsenal-Liverpool one or the United-Liverpool game.

English teams just aren't that good. Some pundits just cannot accept that. Man City embarrass themselves annually in the CL. Man City are comfortably the best team in England just now, and they have just been turned over on their own patch, by a Juventus team that was ripped to bits during the summer transfer window.

They lack the technical class of European sides. Teams like Juventus, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla move the ball about at a higher class than any English team even though none of them are spending near the money on players. I think it's because English football is quite rugged and hardworking that English teams need to play a certain style to win but when it comes to Europe and teams are maybe set up better tactically and also more clever on the ball they struggle.

Juventus looked like they didnt break sweat tonight against Man City and PSV although not a very good team they werent really troubled by Man U, Man U were impotent going forward and passed the ball about the middle and back far too slowly.

Poor tactics, and the team's just not being very good.

I truly think that the top English sides suffer from something close to us - the competition they get every week just doesn't serve them well for the European game. It doesn't matter that the English sides can sign whoever they want, they still have to play that frantic style which is impossible to break away from.

No where do they state the league has the world's best teams though. As a league it is one of the best easy. Most leagues other than england are a 2 horse race.

At least as far as United is concerned, I think the team looked good enough formation wise and he picked the best players he had available, just wasnt their night. PSV had them sussed.

This is the thing for me, in Europe the PL style doesn't work. It's all about control in midfield and taking your chances. Expecting to be able to play like they do in the league just won't work, street wise teams like Juve will always be able to combat it.

City have won it already IMO.

This is a common misconception from people who follow the English league. First of all, it's becoming a one-horse race. Second is the fact that competition doesn't mean quality. If it did then MLS would be the best league in the world. Lower-level English sides have regularly shown themselves to be incompetent in lower-level European competition recently. Just because Barcelona and Real Madrid (and Atletico, who people bizarrely forget about) are absurdly good sides doesn't mean anything bad about Sevilla or Valencia.

Yep, I think your spot on. Even us neutrals get sucked in as we see them regularly and I thoughts having seen how both have started, that City woulda won this quite well..

Big McInally said earlier that the likes of City need to be more savvy, and in part that's true..

Tactically and technically in terms of use of the ball, game management and know how, they are miles behind European side's:50:

Also, talent is a value of diminishing returns. A player making 100k/week is not 10x as good as one making 10k/week. It's not just possible, it's probably likely, that a well-motivated and tactically astute side with enough quality can nullify the Premier League sides which rely on blunt trauma attack.

Two excellent goals from Juventus. Pogba's ball for the first is just amazing.

Aye, Sevilla would probably knock any English team out of Europe.
