Udinese vs. Celtic 15/12/11

A little part of me thinks we actually may do it. We seem to work better (as most teams do) when we are the underdogs and no one really expects us to get the victory.

The Celtic squad has proven to itself in these Europa League games that we can compete at this level. Our whole group stage campaign, can any one remember a bad performance? It comes down to this. Our players will turn up, of that I'm sure. We'll put in a great performance but there can be no denying that there's lots of quality in the ranks of our Italian opponents. We've done well to take it to the last match day. Can we do one better? It would be a fantastic achievement.

I think we perform better as underdogs. Our current team is still too young and inexperienced to be dealing with huge pressure on a European scale.

Maybe not under previous managers and teams, but I think its unfair at this time to say that the current team don't perform away from in Europe. We got a good result against Rennes and lost to a good Atletico side, boasting the likes of Diego and Falcao in their ranks.

Not an easy task though. They are a good side. And the injuries were still piling up for us at that time, although things are improving for us on that front now.

If we had been able to field a full team against them, I think we would have got the away win.

Izzy is scheduled to be back for the derby game and that in itself will feel like a new signing, when he comes back. We've missed him a lot so far this season.

 

hasnt been a standout for us in Europe like he has in the spl but he had pretty good games against udinese at home, atletico madrid away, and rennes at home(for the first half, in the second we didnt see much of the ball and played a mainly defensive game with 10 men behind the ball). I think his pace will be crucial to hitting Udinese on the counterattack which is what we will have to do if we have any hope of winning. The possibility of mathews still being hurt and having to play cha and mulgrew at the fullback positions gives me the fear. Loovens also came off injured today so id imagine we will see kelvin Wilson at cb because rogne isnt registered for this competition.

Brown should not play, he has been crap especially recently, wanyama and kayal in mid with ki and mcgeoch to come off the bench

So are Udinese taking this one seriously ? ala playing their top players or could they care less ?

 

I hope we dont get any injuries from this match and give them a good game.
