If Catania or Udinese were in the SPL, they couldnt afford anywhere near even a quarter of the players they do now so they wouldnt be getting near winning the SPL. Plus how many of their fans would pay €35 to watch a game against St Mirren or Inverness with their team of much poorer players playing them? they struggle to scrape enough fans together to pay €18 to watch teams like Fiorentina, AC Milan, Juventus etc

Most gutted I've been as a fan since that night. Similar feeling.

Excellent point. Similarly, I had to laugh when some Juventus fan pointed out that they had a tough game before playing us, whereas we'd been able to rest players in Inverness. True, resting players is an advantage, but if they think that tough games against world class opposition in preparation for Europe constitute a disadvantage overall, they're deluded. I'd have been more than happy to swap leagues with them for a month before Tuesday night!

This is how it's done against Rubentus. Great goal by Totti couple days ago against the cheats

Celtic have to resurrect the Spirit of 67, better players and good coaching is the only way to overcome Latino Refs, cannot compete with debt ridden superclubs(?) financially unless we are accepted to Premiership.

Play for pride in Turin, hope for breaks.

Watched the game yesterday and loved watching Roma stick it to the cheats. What a laugh watching all their whinging as they chase the ref after he blew the final whistle and did not let them take that last corner kick deep into injury time.

I agree with you in that most Euro mainstream Mid-league clubs could win SPL title, consider this,Italy population circa 61,000,000, Scotland population circa 5,000,000, problem is we cannot hope to produce the same competitiveness due to numbers, however we must hope to nurture new talent to compete at Euro level (achieved this in 67&70), even if we can afford to buy in some UK/foreign players we just cannot match so called superclubs financially.

As for Rangers they could not pay their bills and have suffered dire consequences, quite rightly, other Scots clubs will have to up their game, finish above Celtic and BINGO they are champs. It is down to ambition and finance, but in these straitened times it may be folly stretch financial resources, as our Glasgow rivals found to their cost.

I've been romanticising over how this tie could be turned around. All it takes is for Juve to make a silly mistake in the box and it would be red card, penalty, goal. Then we have the rest of the game to get two goals against 10 men.

That's why I think it's not so much important we go looking directly for 3 goals against them, but more to get as many awkward runs into the box as possible looking for such a mistake. Players like Samaras, Forrest, Brown, Watt will excel here. Big balls over the top to expose the last man would be ideal

Juve defence are probably the least likely in the competition to concede a penalty this way, but can't think of any other way into the game.

If it turns out Chiellini is not going to make it back, or that he is less than fit and starts anyway (doubtful with the 0-3 lead) we have that bit more of a chance in my opinion. He really is vital to their defence.

I think whichever referee is appointed cannot ignore whatever happens at set pieces this time, so it's not inconceivable we might get a penalty. Regardless of the fact UEFA will obviously do nothing about the first ref, this one will know he is under scrutiny from the first corner.

I would love if the ref was English, they're not great but they would probably favour us in terms of all the diving, playacting, shirt pulling the Italians do.

I'm still * angry about last week, * despise Lichtsteiner :31:

An English ref would probably be perfect for us in all honesty, you're right. It'd have been better to get one in the first leg right enough.

Let's not kid ourselves, as we always do (myself included) - we are out.

They should see the game out with minimum fuss.

I'd be happy just to win the match, I think the tie is over imo it'd take a minor miracle to overcome the 1st leg scoreline (the most flattering in recent memory)

I'd rather go out fighting than with a whimper, a win would be a great achievement over there considering their home record! That and the fact it'd make every Celtic fan proud and show Europe we belong on this stage!

Craig Swan in today's Daily Ranger has written a fair piece on the state of Euro club football. Unless you are part of the big 5 (France,Italy,England,Spain and Germany) you have no chance to progress in this competition.

Only way to overcome this seems to be by bribery.
