Thought I'd give my tuppence worth on the Dublin - Rest of Ireland debate here as someone who is not Irish but has lived in Ireland.

Bluntly, I'm not a fan of Dublin. I always felt the City centre was a bit of a tourist circus aimed at the yanks. It is incredibly expensive compared with other parts of Ireland.

I've come across a lot of Dubs that have the opinion that the rest of Ireland are jealous. I personally feel if there is any jealousy it's in relation to the level of opportunity, investment and services that Dublin have in comparative terms.

However I did find Dublin had more of an international vibe to it which I preferred. Whereas other parts of Ireland seemed to have a distinctly rural and parochial feel to it. Maybe that's due to the fact I'm from a fairly large city myself.

    1. Possible hyperbole, certainly the least enjoyable place I have been to though.
    2. Yes. It is appalling there.
    3. Yes, it is.
    4. I never said that; what I said was, what is referred to as 'Dublin wit' is unbearable. As is the accent
    5. See 2 and 4, not to mention the rudeness in shops, restaurants etc.
    6. I did say Glasnevin Cemetery. The woman were easy too, but that accent, not to mention the make-up!
    7. Yes. I choose watching them abroad once a year instead, as I live abroad it is easier and cheaper for me than going to somewhere I don't like. I did go back for a LOI match a couple of years back and was meant to stay over, I got the bus home instead.

I love how personally you are taking it! I didn't need to make friends there, many of my friends were already living there, I was living with two of them. But I appreciate your concern.

Dublin takes plenty of slagging on here and it generally doesn't bother me and I even tend to join in, not taking it personally at all. Just pointing out you're talking * is all.

How can a largely subjective opinion be *? You haven't even tried to defend Dublin with any good points, or even refute any of my arguments. As entertaining as it is, it isn't much of a rebuttal.

Dublin can't be any worse than Birmingham, Wolverhampton or Dundee.

I absolutely loved my trip to Wolverhampton; Molineux is a lovely ground, the curry is excellent, the beer great and the accent and dialect is hilarious and charming.
Birmingham isn't what you would call beautiful, but it does have an industrial charm and an interesting history. The Brummies are very friendly too. It is hard not to be intrigued by these fromer centres of industrialisation.

    I haven't been to Dundee, so I can't comment.

Been to Birmingham a few times recently with work and was genuinely taken aback by how friendly the people were.

last time there (other than transiting the airport) was a few years ago for the October mini-tourney (us, mancy city etc)...

enjoyed the place but couldn't believe the number of pubs that were closed down... must have been 2 out of 3. Made it feel quite run-down!

See when you drink out a plastic bottle and then it has like a dent in it but then the bottle gets filled with gas and the dent pops out and scares the * out of you.

    * that.
