what about clint dempsey at fulham.valued around 4 million.can score goals from midfield,or play up front.he has only turned 26 so would have resale value.he is 6ft 1 and strong in a challenge so would suit the spl.have a good confederations cup last month,scoring in the quaters,semi's and the final.he has just turned down a contract extension at fulham,everton considering making 4 million pound move.

Can you lads tell me a bit more about Scott Robertson from DU? Is he any good?

 

Good player for any SPL team but not for us.

 

He's on over £60k per week, and has four years to run on his contract, ergo, no chance.

Alright, what about Gomis and Buaben, also from DU?

 

Not seen enough of Bauben tbh as he back up in their midfield.

Gomis could do a job just a physical, great engine and decent passer. Dont think he would get a game though and wouldnt really wanna waste time on him but not bad wee player.

 

Gomis looked good when I seen him, but we have plenty of short arses in midfield already.

 

Alright. After hearing that, I think that we should be aiming much higher than SPL 'stars'.

 

Don't get me wrong, some of these guys are good players, but in my own personal opinion, not what we need for various reasons. Unless they are clearly a level or two above what we have in place already, I would say leave SPL players alone for a while.

Additionally, our league is shabby enough without filling our reserves with the cream of other clubs. I honestly beleive that if we put out a Celtic "B" team that they would be able to finish in the top six comfortably.

No harm on keeping tabs on some players though.

 

Honestly, I don't think that Celtic "B" would finish in top 6, I reckon they'd struggle for relegation. You've seen our poor play against relegation fighters and that brings us to the conclusion that even our first team can be dodgy at time. It is a good idea, though. But, we already have our reserve squad with 8 titles in a row, so it tells us how good our youngsters actually are.

I agree about SPL players, some are tipped to be stars and many of them finish right where they begun. But, fewness of these players actually fulfill their potential, but when they move to Old Firm clubs. Look at Hibs. In last few years they produced great talents, but they all went elsewhere because they want to progress and develop as players.

Now, my point is that we have few hot tiped players like Driver, Wallace, Gomis, Arfield and others who still play in SPL and they are easier to get than others from England, both from EPL and Championship.

Well, if we look at last season's squad, and the guys that rarely got a game we could have a "B" team of

While there would be obvious concerns if we ever fielded this as a first eleven it's a reasonable team by SPL standards, and only contains one of our players under 20 (Sheridan). Obviously other players from the reserves would need to be drafted in to allow for substitutions etc.

 

That's our major problem. We're not producing enough good players, so we have to look for players in Edinburgh, Dundee or Aberdeen. I'm aware of Maloney, McGeady, McManus and others from our youth sistem, but that simply isn't enough. If we had more perspective youngsters, than we wouldn't lead this conversation right now. Now, as I mentioned, Arfield, Driver, Wallace and Gomis are players worth of checking.
