    Ismael Goncalves.

Supposedly the fee is 400k. Beast of a man, looked a class act at St. Mirren. He would change our striking options immensely if Balde also signs (don't think we've really played with two big men up front since Hartson/Sutton and even Larsson was good in the air). For 400k he'd be well worth a go, especially with Hooper likely to leave and Stokes position in question given he's not for signing a contract. Given they're Portuguese as well they'd likely end up being mates off the pitch meaning they'd develop a partnership on it.

I hope it's not true he is proper *,considering what's out there and letting a proven spl player go down south then I would be mortified if we were bidding for this guy!

This also might have something to do with the Wanyama transfer

I'd * your hand off for Walters before Doyle. Walters goal scoring isn't terrible at Stoke for someone that doesn't play as at out and out forward in an awful team.

Still, many many better options out there. No from me.

I seem to remember us being linked with Jozy Altidore about 2 years back.

He would have been relatively then (probably less than 5m) and I can't help but to think how much we missed out on this player.

He's currently playing with AZ in the Dutch League and he's netted 38 goals in 67 appearances, and they're 10th in the Eredivisie. He's also been quite decent on the international stage with the United States.

He would probably cost a fortune now. Too bad.

Not the worst we've been linked with, but it's a no from me.

Dutch league is absolutely rancid with goals scored though. Higdon would have scored 98 in 73 games.

I'd rather have him than Doyle but in all honesty, I'd rather have neither.

Ambrosini is leaving Milan for free, If he would take a pay cut then we should try and squeeze a year or 2 out of him

It's been suggested on here before, but Philipp Hosiner would score for fun here.

Aye mentioned him a few times, would not be surprised if we were looking at him incase Hooper leaves.

Yep that's what I'm thinking too. He would be a direct replacement for Hooper. Quite a similar player actually, bags of pace as well.

I know he's not short, but he's hardly 'a beast of a man' at 6ft, which is average height, I'd say. I'm that and I definitely don't consider myself a giant! It's also true to say that he's no pushover physically, but he's simply not that kind of player: he's a pacy, technical forward/winger. Not saying I disagree with your point about him being a good potential partner for Balde, and I'm also not saying that he wouldn't be an option at set plays; but he's no 'big target man' by any manner of means.

EDIT: I know you don't have to be tall to be a target man, but it does help, and anyway, that aside, that just isn't Goncalves' game, primarily.
