...plus GMS has one thing that none of our attacking midfielders have had since the likes of Petrov and Lubo: the ability, willingness and tendency to control the pace of a game and slow it down when necessary. We badly lacked that attribute in Europe this year, especially in the away game against Benfica, and both games vs Juventus.

I love Commons and Forrest with how direct they are, but they can lead to us being too impatient in certain situations (e.g. when a team's really parking the bus, it'd be better for us to pass it about among ourselves, so as to hope to draw the opposition out of their shape and open up space - even Partick Thistle did this vs Morton last week!). It's not as much of a problem domestically, but even in the SPL we're sometimes caught out by it. Sometimes we need that extra dimension.

I'd love to see a playmaker like Mackay-Steven come in and sit in the hole in a 4-2-3-1, with Commons and Forrest either side and whoever's leading the line for us next year up front. He could even swap around with Commons, if we can coach Kris into being a bit more clever with his distribution of the ball when he plays through the middle.

Same as me mate. I think he is a fantastic player, has everything in his locker to be a top player. As you say, strength is the only area where he needs to really work on, fortunately, that is one of the easier things in football to work on. I honestly think he is a more exciting prospect than Forrest.

hes got a better scoring record than fletcher in the spl and hes scored quite a few goals against the huns in his career which is always a good attribute to have. Its obviously impossible to prove whether or not russell would be a success here but hes a young player with pace, dribbling ability, heading ability, and brilliant work rate. I think it would be silly to pass on signing him.

What about Alex Pearce from Reading, free transfer? Been frozen out the team after knocking back 8 new contract offers, the latest being around £18k a week. Irish international, solid in the air and decent distribution. At 24 we could make a good return on him.

Ah well, what about Alex Baptiste, the blackpool captain, centre back, free transfer?

No thanks. If we are going to bring in another centre half, which we do need to do, I would like us to spend a little dosh to get one in(unless ofcourse the right one appears for nothing). Plus the fact I do not think Baptiste is really the one we need.

If we're aiming for a good centre half, I've been impressed with Adrian Mariappa from Reading this season. Carries their back 4 himself really. Think he cost £2.5 million in the summer from Watford so they can't really ask for anyone than that for him.

Florian Thauvin - Onloan at Bastia from Lille. He has just signed for Lille but was loaned back for the rest of the season, would be a good loan signing possibly next season. Excellent young player.
