Really hope something comes of these rumours about the chilean boy. They have produced some quality players in the past and still are producing them. Didn't Man united sign a young chilean striker in the summer too?

South American market is one we should be tapping into more. Exciting prospect if true.

Only problem with the south american market is getting work permits. For young guys its a bit easier than older ones because there is a stipulation for a work permit when the player can either improve the league or they can prove that the player they want to sign is a hot prospect or something like that.

So Celtic will try to fill one of these criteria. Don't quote me on those though, sure i read that somewhere though.

Someone retweeted a Santos Laguna fan on Twitter saying 'Oribe Peralta al Celtic? No! Porque?'. Take from that what you will. I've searched and can't find anything linking us. Maybe the guy knows something we don't. :smiley-laughing002: I like Peralta anyway, wouldn't mind him here.

Excellent shout, imo. He's apparently only on £6k a week at Sporting, too. The lure of the last 16 plus improved wages makes it sound like quite a realistic deal.

He wouldn't come here. We aren't in the market for established Premier League stars anyway

What about wages, who would cover £90k a week? certainly no Celtic.

This a serious suggestion? He's on more wages than what we currently pay, chelsea, spurs and liverpool want him. No chance he would come here.

He has a release clause in his contract for that amount - whether or not he's actually worth more is almost irrelevant.

I don't think we'd spend that kind of money. It's not that we can't afford to, necessarily; it's just that we've moved on to a different model of recruitment now. Not saying I wouldn't happily have the board raid the CL money to get him here, and then pay his flight and taxi fares myself (I would!); just that Peter Lawwell has probably instructed Lenny to get John Park to find someone who could do a good job at a significantly smaller price.

He's looking for £90k p/w and he's failed a couple of medicals in his career. I rather see the money invested into Hoopers contract

Wages would be way too high, it would be a record fee we'd be paying for him and by all accounts he wouldn't pass a medical. No thanks.

Rather we kept to our strategy to find unearthed gems from abroad.

I'd love for him to come but we'd never be able to afford his wages.

If we're going to be taking the risk paying that sort of money, which we won't be - it wouldn't be for someone with a dodgy injury record. Crazy suggestion in truth, with the fee and wages being so high. Not to mention the fact he probably wouldn't want to come here.

It would be a dream come true if he signed for us, but let's face it, we're not in a situation where we can afford to be paying the wages of proven Premier League stars. He'll end up signing for Spurs or something.

Could he do it on a cold Wednesday night in Dundee anyway? I'm not so sure :icon_mrgreen:

Everyone of those can offer what he wants wage wise, and keep him in a league where he scores every other week. Also us being in the last 16 is all good and dandy this year but once we are in the last 16 so many years in a row and not just a one off thats when top players would want to come ( and maybe also when we might start paying 40k plus wages per player )

No thanks, I'd rather we keep finding players and developing them than spending outrageous money on overpriced players.
