Yan couto looks very similar to frimpong except he looks a bit better in the tackle, would be all for this in a 2 year loan

In theory there isn't if there's a realistic option to buy if they're successful or the club use the 6/12 months wisely to source a quality, long-term option.

Annoyingly we don't seem to do that often enough.

Anthony Joseph reporting we're in for a player? Usually means we're not actually in for said player.

It blocks player pathways. Most loans from bigger clubs come with penalties for not playing so there’s pressure to play the loanee.

In the case of the CB position, if we bought in a loanee who wasn’t significantly better than Welsh, then it causes issues when a player is getting selected for no other reason than he’s on loan. Other young future signings see that and sign for the big clubs if there’s a choice.

In can also have an impact further down the tree. Hjelde for example, if he has a chance of first team football or sees the manager playing youth, then he likely stays here. If not, then he’s probably off to Leeds

    Every action has a reaction.

Of course there are negatives. You half fill your team with them then they all * off and you're left short on players again

No I'm not from "Melbourne" I'm from a little just the other side of Geelong. Been to most victory games since Thomas's debut, if I recall correctly he came on after Ante Covic got sent off, he may have even saved the eschewing penalty.

He isn't fantastic with his feet which won't suit anges style though he's significantly better than when he started. He would definitely need competition, he did well coming in for covic and coe and had a few fantastic years but after the h
Heist in the Hunter he fell off as he was comfortable.
He needs someone pushing him or him pushing someone else and:
    a) I can't see celtic bringing in 2 keepers,
    b) if they went for him it can't be Bain or Barkas pushing him which then means, see a).

Love him, he deserves a big move. Don't think it'll get any bigger than Denmark though

He got better playing out from the back, as Muscat and Anges styles were similar. Victory though were very predictable when playing out, though it was very effective.

He's an excellent shot stopper, VERY brave (see grand final vs Newcastle) and by all reports is the guy who sets the standard for the vibe at a club, good guy with a massive personality.

Would've loved Langerak to give Europe another go but will never leave Japan and got burnt massively by Stuttgart.

Well normally a club would spend that entire season finding their long term solution.

    We don’t.

    That’s not a loan problem, that’s a Celtic problem.

What do you mean blocks pathways?

Penalties? You know we are talking about a player who will be playing week in week out. Ralston won’t be keeping him out the team.

Your only negatives are if we don’t bring in a first team player. Which isn’t what we are taking about. And that shouldn’t be what loans are for.

It’s been quite interesting seeing the Aussie invasion on here in recent months and a few, like @George Theodorou have probably tickled a few feathers with their bias and lack of understanding of the demands of Celtic and the European/Scottish game. So must admit it’s good to see a very measured Australian response with some depth @Scubaroo, so a belated welcome.

For what it’s worth, @George Theodorou I have some Scottish family in Australia and I have a decent understanding of the levels and personnel of the Australian league. We’ll all accept that the Scottish league isn’t fantastic; but the standards we expect at Celtic are a lot higher than that’s expected in the rest of Scotland, or indeed in Australia… it’s that simple. Some of the suggestions you’ve made on here are farcical.

He was on 120k a week ffs.

What are we gonna pay him in? Anger management therapy sessions with everybody's best mate "big kendo"?

Mibbe we'll offer him a trial, like we did with Rivaldo :57:

I was just specifically referencing where you wrote that there are no negatives.

In the case of Ralston, then yeah more than likely there’s no negative.

But that’s also why I referenced the CB position because a loan for the Japanese Man City CB would IMO be disastrous. Starfelt and Welsh would be current starting CB. Then you have Julien back from injury in a month or so. With that you now have the 18 yo Dane Murray showing he’s got something about him and finally you’ve got the 17yo Hjelde as a potential cup starter for getting minutes. That sort of pathway for the Murray and Hjelde is exciting and well earned. They have shown they are good enough.

Now if the Japanese lad comes in, Welsh falls down to 4th choice once Julien is back, and we then have a problem trying to rotate Julien and Starfelt to get game time for the loanee. Welsh falls to 4th choice and the rest aren’t getting a look in.

The young 17yo lad Hjelde will be off to Leeds in a flash if his pathway to the first team is blocked.

Pathway referencing your path to the first team. A loanee will make it much more difficult.

Penalties, referencing that big clubs such as Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea all have clauses in the loan contract, that fine you significant sums of money for not playing their player.

Lawrence Thomas, very good keeper - he is in the second year of a 2 year contract with Danish premier league club SonderjyskE. Always liked him and a very good dependable keeper with all the attributes.

Will not be expensive, is the right age, and has played in many big games against big clubs. Trade Barkas to the Danes as part of an exchange deal and the deal is done. Barkas will be happy with all the pressure off him and he can continue in his career. Thomas can step his up to match his qualities.

Check Thomas on youtube clips and you will see what I mean. He would be an astute buy and bring confidence to the defence.

Best to make a move for Lawrence now . He is a member of the Australian World Cup squad. Once the qualifying rounds start and he gets world exposure his transfer price is going to increase. This guy is quality.

Sorry, do not agree with you. Ange was manager/coach at Melbourne Victory when Thomas was there. He was a regular starter with Victory and I have seen him longer than you and on a regular basis over many seasons. You have limited viewing time of him. He does play from the back. What stats are you talking about ? Look again, you will see his Danish club's current success is due to him being in goal. Do it !
