Being linked in the media doesn't mean that they're actually our targets though.

Bakker and Doughty are the ones we know for definite and both look like they would've fit the bill.

Most of those reports are credible, but fair enough.

Forget them, and just entertain the possibility that we have enquired about De Sciglio. What does that say? The alternative to a 20-year-old at Charlton Athletic, with a few dozen senior appearances, is a 27-year-old at Juventus, with 39 caps for Italy? :giggle1:

Besides, we know from previous transfer sagas that our player recruitment policy is haphazard (Kramarić to Šćepović, Šporar to Klimala, etc.).

Aye, our transfer policy needs improving for sure.

Given all of our recent links have been low-cost options (Bakker loan, Hickey <£1m, Doughty <£1.5m, Sessegnon loan, Sciglio loan) it seems to me like Lennon's been told there isn't much money unless a player goes.

If that assumption is correct then it might explain why we're being a bit more creative with our targets.

If we're intent on playing 3-5-2 though then a LWB isn't one we can afford to really scrimp on, it's a huge part of the system.

If it was a choice of moving on the likes of Ntcham to fund a quality LWB and RW then it's one I'd probably take. That's obviously contingent on a big enough bid for him being on the table and the availability of incoming players.

I think this is my only criticism right now, we know we looked far better as a 3-5-2 last year and to play that shape we needed certain players of which a left wing back was one. We knew Boli was poor and out of favour, Taylor an ok option and let Hayes go.

As mentioned by others we had no control over FF declining to come back and took quick corrective action in Barkas. Similar with Griff coming back out of shape and we bought Ajeti. We let Jozo go and brought Duffy in.

I would definitely have done what you were saying in selling a CM to fund a suitable LWB.

I am actually worried about letting so many of our top value players enter the last year of their deal. We will need to raise considerable funds from them to bring in
    Replacements:

    CB x2
    DCM
    ST (possibly x2)
    AM/10
    Winger

We may manage to fill one or two of those positions from players within the squad but will still need significant investment.

Wolves saying that Ruben Vinagre is up for sale. Would be worth signing.

Don’t think we have a chance unless he’s available to loan.

The fact we’ve known we’re going to play with wing backs since the turn of the year and don’t seem to have a number one target for the role is poor.

Actually makes you wonder if Boli hadn’t * up would we even be in the market for one.

Going by the Sessegnon and De Sciglio stories, if they’re to be believed, it reads like we’re just sticking our name in the hat for any LWB that comes available rather than having a clear idea of what we want in that position long term.

He’d be a great shout. Apparently he’s in talks with Olympiakos about a season’s loan with the option to buy, so we should be able to compete for his signature surely.

Went to look at the list of free agent left backs there and noticed Ben Arfa is on a free again.

Would still love him here man, even at 33, what a pler.

Really hope we have a new LB signed by sunday, they obviously wont start against st johnstone but if they're match fit even a 5-10 minute cameo would be great.
