He's definitely unspectacular. I've had my criticisms of him before for Ireland where I felt he was a little timid and not giving it all he had. He picked up recently though and had an excellent euros.

In my opinion he's a little bit overrated but he'd be an excellent coup for us. Especially with an option to buy.

I actually rate him extremely high but thought he had a shocking Euros :56:

Man United and Spurs weren't sniffing about recently for nothing, he can be world class on his day.

    :smiley-laughing002: funny how opinions differ

I may be getting my games mixed up. I know he wasn't particularly impressive for the majority of qualifying but he had some excellent games recently. Can't remember exactly which ones. Can only have been the euros though I suppose.

Thought he was * against Belgium but alright in all the other games.

Was criticised for his performance against Sweden but again, I thought he was alright in that game.

Watched some highlights of him last night in matches against Spurs and someone else, can't remember. Never realised how much running he does. He was running like Brown on speed. Closing players down, using his strength to put them under pressure. And he looked tidy on the ball.

Looks like the sort of players Rodgers wants.

It was only 3/4 years ago Everton paid £13m for him. He was linked with the top clubs even 1/2 years ago before signing a new deal with Everton.

Since then, the money down South has gotten more crazy. Someone in that League would be willing to pay £13m at least.

This is my worry. Palace or someone can come in with 12-15 mill easy and we want a loan, what are they gonna accept?

If the rumours are true that family reason's are why he wants back home, then that only carries so much sway to Everton. He could kick his heels and reject any English deals that Everton accept, then leaving him unhappy, out the picture and on 60 bag's that they'll want off the wage bill. Then maybe, just maybe we could lead the way..

Think we might need that to happen. If he really wants to come here, then surely it'll all work out?

Even though it's just rumours, I'll be gutted if this one doesn't happen now.:smiley-laughing002:

I wouldn't care if it didn't happen. I mean he'd obviously be a good signing for us. But would we have any chance at all of signing hiking permanently? I doubt it

As long as we bring in a good quality CM I'm happy enough.

It's pretty hard to see it happening, the more I think about...... Especially with the money floating about between side's in England..

I really want it to happen. He's a proven premier league player, who Rodgers could get the very best out of. The quality difference in taking McGregor out and sticking McCarthy in. It's like people talking down about Sinclair before. McCarthy's had a better standing in England and been wanted by the best, far more than Sinclair has....and look at his impact. A year between the 2 and in there prime..

He'd be an outstanding acquisition, no doubt for me..

Aye I'll still be surprised if we get him, but the fact he is a Celtic fan and if it's true that his dad is ill...then we are definitely in with a chance.

I guess we'll see soon enough if it happens or not!

I see on BBC they are talking about one more player in. Unless it's a £10mil plus player I would be pretty dissaponted. If it's a loan I will be * raging lol

No chance are we spending 10m a player. You shouldn't expect us to either

We have actually not spent much when you take into account funds coming in and I expect a few to still leave. Taking into account the champions league money then £10mil really shouldnt be pie in the sky

Maybe but the wages a 10m player would take would be well in excess of what we could or should pay

That's the issue. If we spread £10 million across 2-3 players that'll be fine but you'll be hard pressed to see Lawwell shell out that on 1 guy, and he's correct in not doing it.
