Hearing #Celtic have made an offer to take James McCarthy on loan. He is keen on the move and it is looking very likely. No slip ups tonight

    Dave talks pish.

I'm not sure about a loan. Need a long term solution in the middle of the park not an expensive stop gap.

By the law of averages he must be due to get something right though... :fear:

McCarthy is really quite overrated and he's not exactly 'creative' which Brendan saints he wants in his next signing.

I'd take McCarthy on loan with an option to buy though

:smiley-laughing002: realised I was thinking about a different player almost as soon as I wrote it.

Not sure if we really need a creative player as we have a few already, we need a battler in middle of pitch and i think McCarthy would be ideal.

McCarthy has changed and evolved quite a bit as a player since going down South, as you'd expect as he matures.

My memory might be playing up but I seem to remember him at Accies as more of a playmaking, box-to-box type.

He's become a lot more defensive down there. If he was to come back up to Scotland in a side like ours he could maybe be let off the hook a bit.

On form he is a very good midfielder. Tactically very good, can read the game well and I do like him. Loan deal I'm not overly keen on unless it included a buy option which I highly doubt.

Celtic have approached Man City to make the Roberts loan deal permanent. Talks are now ongoing. The player is happy to stay HH

Would be delighted with Roberts and Mccarthy but I think it's bullshit.

Bidding for Roberts would start at £15m if City were going to sell him, massively out of our range

Unreliable source at best I'm guessing?

I laughed at the thoughts of us making it a permanent move but it's starting to look a little more possible imo.

If the starts align you could have a situation where:

Roberts loves it here. He loves the fans, he loves the adulation, he loves playing under Rodgers and he loves the prospect of regular CL football. He also doesn't like the idea of going back to City because he fears he won't get a fair crack.

Then on City's side. Guardiola doesn't really like the look of Roberts. He'd like him back but he's not desperate to see what he has to offer. If the player is desperate to go he's happy to let him go.

Then Celtic go balls out with a £10m offer to City after beating Hapoel tonight.

Like I said.. This is if the stars align :smiley-laughing002: I'm still fairly firmly in the "pie in the sky" camp as far as this rumour goes but it's nice to dream a little :smiley-laughing002:

If we are interested in keeping Roberts permanent we will be spending the bulk of the money we make as of this evening on him.

I personally wouldn't mind that but regardless, it aint happening. Not a chance.

    I'd be astonished if

    a) He is happy to stay here permanently
    b) We would be able to afford him

We're potentially getting 25m for qualifying. Spend 7m of that on Roberts. Wishful thinking maybe:54:
