    Fabian Johnson impressed me.

Lustig the right off three centre halfs.
And Fabian Johnson and Adam Mathews fighting it out for the right wing back spot

Terrence Boyd is up for grabs for around £1.75m euros. Could be a real coup at that price, only seen Wigan and Leipzig are apparently interested, could easily beat both of them to his signature.

He is in talks supposedly but we could beat them to signing him I would be pretty confident of that. Would be a good signing although we'd have to ship out a few strikers.

Watt, Griffiths, Stokes and Boyd would be a good 4. Send Balde out onloan/sell and convert Pukki into a right or left winger in a 4-3-3.

Could do a job in Europe up top on his own and has the finishing power to match.

......and let those 4 fight it out for the sole central role? I think that'll make for a few unhappy strikers! There is still Forrest, Commons and Boerrigter to fit in on the left or right of that.

Not necessarily no. I only mentioned the 4-3-3 to explain what would happen to Pukki, not saying we would be playing that all the time who knows what Deila has planned. I wouldn't want Commons on either wing either I don't think he has enough pace to play as an out and out winger anymore, although it depends on what type of 4-3-3 Deila likes to employ.

Boyd for less than £1.5m would be a decent deal. We are probably aware of his situation, definitely a player we would have scouted I reckon.

A flat 4-3-3 wouldn't suit us imo. Put this on another thread but that's how I'd do it, would allow Commons to play & be effective and you can interchange Stokes/Griffiths for Watt/Pukki or whoever you prefer.

Domestically I think he will use the likes of stokes and commons as inside forwards, creating space on the flanks for the fullbacks to push on. When we attack our system will become more like a 2-5-3 with the CB's and a holding midfielder, prob Johansen/Biton staying back to cover the gaps in behind the full backs/come wingers. In Europe this will revert to a more traditional 4-3-3/4-5-1 in order to provide more protection with the pace of Forrest and Boerrigter coming in on the flanks for counter attacking.

    Domestically:

    -----------Efe------VVD---------
    ------------Johansen------------
    ---------Brown-----Biton--------
    Lustig------------------------Izzy
    ------Commons------Stokes----
    -------------Griffiths-------------

I do like the look of that.

Keeping it on topic as well, it would allow us to make use of the forwards we have meaning they are all getting playing time and there is still plenty of competition there. I'd preferably like us to have 4 strikers fighting it out for a couple positions in the side.

Therefore, as I was getting at before, a 4 of Watt, Stokes, Griffiths and Boyd/other striker would be good to have if we were going to play a formation like that above. Watt could also be used as a winger.

Anyway we won't sign Boyd but I just thought I'd point out that it's a decent price for him considering his record, strengths and age.

He looks a player right enough although I've got a feeling we won't be signing too many, if any this transfer window. Think Ronny will go with what we have, especially up front.

I think 2 players will come in, an energetic box to box centre mid and maybe another winger. We still need a back up left back/challenger to Izzy. That will be all the more important if Deila wants to go down the route of playing out and out wingbacks.

Agree with you on that, wouldn't mind Robertson from DU as competition as he fits the bill perfectly. Good going forward, young, already an international and probably a reasonable price. Wouldn't mind another CB, as much as I like Efe he has far too many heart in the mouth moments for my liking.

Not sure about a box to box midfielder as i think we're covered there but we are crying out for a creative attack mid someone who can unlock defences when games are on a knife edge, a Nakamura type. It's something we've lacked for years. Commons does a job domestically but on European nights he struggles.

I agree with all of that mate. I just think Deila wants another midfielder in that mould. Mainly because of the hard-working style he likes to employ and the fact I think Kayal is for the off.

Robertson would be a good signing. Left backs are notoriously hard to come by and Izzy won't be around forever, maybe another 2 good years out of him at the most IMO. He lost a bit of that blistering pace after his injury I feel and as he gets older that will continue to disappear. Robertson looks to be the real deal, although still raw, will no doubt be the starting left back for Scotland for years to come.

Efe is a strange one I have always been in two minds surrounding him. Good footballing ability but at times seems to be in a world of his own. I do think another centre half is needed though, we were lucky that Ambrose and Van Dijk had barely any injuries or suspensions last year as we didn't have much to come in and cover them. Mulgrew and thats about it, Lustig could fill in if needed but preferably bringing another centre half in wouldn't be a bad idea. Another one in the mould of Efe and Virgil would be good. Relatively young, comfortable with the ball and good pace.

Like you say I'd love us to get a proper number 10 to support Commons. At times we rely too much on him to open the door, he won't always be around to do that. We have Callum Macgregor coming back from Notts County maybe give him some time to prove himself perhaps? Rogic as well, if not then we could address that.
