To be fair, we had looked comfortable at the back. In fact, was it not when Ambrose went to centre half that we conceded? I'm not saying it was solely his fault, but he was involved.

Lustig coming off was a big blow but Ambrose was shaky as * the full game. Denayer should have been kept in, with Ambrose not being anywhere near the team. Especially at right back, he brings nothing to the team at right back.

King Kenny and Henrik. Proud to have seen them both play.
Despite squeezing into the Champy League last year, we were already a team in decline and hence, this year, also factoring in all the changes with the management, we're not even close.

Last year we struggled with a young Ajax side who went on to get pummeled by this years Europa League opponents, Salzburg!

In all honesty, if we can kick on from the Aberdeen game and get a decent run in the Europa, it could do our co-efficient points better than 4 or 5 beatings in the Champy League would.

Completely agree. We scraped in last year, and had we got anybody except Karagandy, I don't think we would have progressed, as they were probably the worst team we could face.

    Crying ?
Surely Murph-E should be crying in your negativity . P L usually manages to hide his emotions, personnally I didn't think his love for Celtic was so great that he would cry on TV over Celtic .

Correct me if I am wrong but Samaras was gone before the transfer window opened , but it was a good shout but of course negative and wrong .

We were on the way , if we had continued O' Neil's spending spree we may have beaten the Huns to it . Fortunately P L came in and along with WGS and N L and even the sad Tony we brought the salaries down , the Big transfer out fees and still had continuous success at home and Europe .

O'Neill spent * all 2003-2005, other than the wages he was permitted and encouraged to spend from 2000-2002.

Aye it was embarrassing for him. He must have been struggling to cope with it during that time. We should have loosened the purse strings even a wee bit.

What? We were in £30million of debt thanks to opening the purse strings!

The amount of people on this Forum who seem to think we're Real Madrid staggers me.
We take in a year what they do in a month. A MONTH!

£6million players, 50-60k a week wages.... aye loosen the purse strings.

This is my fear too. Deila's not done much to convince me otherwise.

I am not sure signing a L B would make that much of a difference . Izzy's problems this year are that he doesn't have anything near the support or cover under Deila , as he had in Lennnon's team . Deila's aim to date is to close the opposition down high up the park . When they break out we don't have a combative midfield to interrupt or prevent them running at or passing their way through our back four. Izzy and Ambrose are given all the ridiculing on various threads but nobody can say that Virgil or Lustig have performed at last year's high standards either .

I think Ledley Brown and others were encouraged to use their football brain under Lennon . Deila's management seems to be different , he dictates to every player what he wants from them where and what to do. That is fine when Celtic is controlling the game but our back four is exposed when we are under a little pressure .

Punting first teamers Forster (big player), Mouyokolo (didn't feature due to injuries), Samaras (sometimes a big player, majority of the time a waste), Watt (failed potential), Balde (same as Watt) and Pukki (poor signing).

And replacing them with Gordon (looks good), Denayer (looks good), Tonev (untested), Berget (poor so far), Wakaso (untested), Scepovic (untested) and Gudietti (untested).

Arguably coming out a bit ahead depending on how those untested players perform. Luckily we won't be stuck with them if they flop like Balde or Pukki. Could be a bit of shrewd business utilising the loan market.

However, not getting these players in before the qualifiers cost us.

It depends how RD uses these players. He should play to the team's strengths and not stay so faithful to his philosophy. His philosophy is a long term target and not one I think he should be forcing like he has been. It should be a transition and not been thrown in the deep end.

    Play to our strengths Ronny!
