I know some of the other leagues in Europe have even more bizarre set ups, I know Austria and Serbia have a split at the end and all the points you have earned up to then are halved, don't tell Doncaster and co before they start getting ideas!!!

When will these fixtures be out? The one remaining fixture does not have any bearing so they should be out as soon as is possible but again this is the SPFL we are talking about here, expect something a week on Thursday!!!!

The split is such a weird concept.

It is mental Sean, but the way it is set up it always could happen.

Every team plays 33 times before the split. So every team is either going to have 1 more home or away game.

If it happens that the top 6 all have played more home games than away games then they are never going to be able to square it with more games.

i like the split, makes it more interesting. Would much rather a trip to say tynecastle or the sheeps barn than hamilton.

good concept & obviously with the knuckle draggers back next year, i'd like to beat them four times :50:

I like the split too. Relegation contenders get a chance to play their rivals and Europe/title challengers get to play each other. It's a good idea.

Aberdeen at home for the last game and trophy presentation would be ideal :celt_2:

The split is the one thing I think Scottish football has going for it ahead of all the leagues around us. What's not to love about a set up that ensures all the games towards the end of the season are meaningful? The argument of 7th potentially getting more points than 6th is nonsense when you consider that, for example, it guarantees that Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock and Hamilton will all play against each other in the final 5 games to avoid relegation.

The best league in the world down south would do anything to have a structure that guarantees those sort of fixtures in the last few games of the season.

Correct, take a look at the English championship. IMO the most exciting league where nearly anyone can win it. A team can get promoted from 4th who finished 20 points behind the team in second! I recall when Blackpool were promoted they had significantly less points than stage team who finaijed second, possibly Cardiff?

The good thing about the split is that in theory every game from that point becomes a '6-pointer' for teams competing forbthe league/europe in the top half and against relegation in the bottom. It's a good idea... In theory.

I'd personally prefer a split after 2 matches per team. A 14 team league, split after 26 games and always 2 hone/away games per opponent. Sticking with 12 teams would be better, so only 34 games a season, but there's no way the SPFL would go for that...

I've never thought about it like that having more meaningful games but as you said the whole thing where 7th could get more points than 6th and not over take them is madness not that it gets a European place or anything

Good in a way for relagation but some would argue the bottom team may have a better chance staying up if the team above them where playing the top teams more than they where to over take them... Dundee United potentially have no chance of surviving because killie don't have a hard run on games

Championship is a farce where teams are happy with staying in the places they need to gain a play off when realising they will never make 1st

eh? so thats like most leagues then! Arsenal are the champions of being happy staying in fourth for ECL :smiley-laughing002:
I think you'll find in every top league in Europe, teams who know they can't win win it will try to achieve European football by acquiring the place they need.

exactly the same as how your sying the championship is a farce.

Going back to the point made about 7th can get more points than 6th place. The lower team had 33 games to be ahead before the split! I don't buy into that, there playing much worse sides.

If we didn't have a split, IMO the league would be even worse than it is. Like it or not when the huns are back next year we could potentially have a split where we face a decent Hearts, Aberdeen, Huns and even Hibs team. I think it's fair to say every team there could beat each other, makes the run in a lot more interesting.
