I'd say your spot on with the choices mate, though I'd put Thiago Silva second, Ramos 3rd and Pique after Virgil. Totally forgot about Godin.
It's down to the tactics in the game now, everybody wants to play fast, attacking, expansive football, which imo should mean a bigger need for a quality defence but it seems to be neglected. -

Aye, Godin is what I'd call a 'proper' centre back. Can still play a bit though. The defenders these days are more interceptors, powerful fast runners to cover. Positioning and tackling is a secondry option it seems.
The positioning of them was hard to do, Silva's last purely because the last 4/5 times I've watched him he hasn't had the best of games. I'm not a massive fan of French football though.Gyp Rosetti likes this. -

Although i agree. Centre backs these days are not a patch on days gone by. They play more like midfielders these days.

Can't think of many that are much better than him. I was going to have him ahead of Ramos as well because he's less of a liability. -

Godin is my favourite CB by quite a bit, as you say he is an old school type defender but is still good enough in this day, he is as tough as they come also he always plays on with broken noses head cuts or any type of injury, and fans love seeing that a player that just keeps going.TheHolyGoalie, 31B404 and Liam Scales like this. -
