To put it into perspective, Forrest is 32. Paul McStay was 32 when he played his last game for Celtic and played nearly 200 more games at the same relative point as Forrest is now. It also makes you wonder if McStay's ankle hadn't packed it in at the tail end of his career, he could've potentially made a push for Cesar's record.

Oh, and yeah, obviously European competition nowadays with it's qualifiers & group stages meant there were a lot more (potential) opportunities for Forrest, as McStay largely played in an era where it was nearly all straight knock out - or those seasons when Celtic never came close to qualifying. Or when there are a lot more subs used that also boosts the opportunity for appearance numbers nowadays compared to back then.

Just to nitpick....was it not his ankle that was *? Agree with you though.

Sorry, yes you're right, it was predominantly his ankle. He did also have some knee trouble though - I also seem to remember though (one of his last games for Scotland was v Australia and he didn't play the second half because of that, if memory serves) - and in the end actually it was a groin strain that caused him to be subbed off in his last ever Celtic game.

Could've maybe continued to try to come back, but I iirc McCann was only offering him a basic wage & pay-per-play deal because of his injuries, which McStay declined and retired instead.

Apart from Forrest and CalMac, who in current squad is closest to making the list. Would probably say Joe Hart but don’t know next one.

If Forrest manages to get a game every match even just as a sub from now he will possibly play his 500th game against the Huns at ipox

Good game for him to come on at 3-0 down

Including getting to this season's Scottish Cup final CalMac will move up to 25th just 12 matches behind Peter Grant, if he plays all the remaining matches.
At least he will have a couple of weeks rest before the next match against Buckie Thistle.

If he doesn’t miss any matches CalMac will play his 460th Celtic match against St Mirren as last match in league before the split

It’s possible that Forrest may get into top 20 in list by end of season if he manages to get game time in remaining matches and we get to Scottish Cup final

Forrest can no longer get into top 20 this season.

Forrest must play every match for rest of this season to move above Charlie Shaw into 21st.
CalMac has no chance of moving up this season as currently 24 matches between him in 25th place and Peter Grant in 24th.
Currently 33 matches between Forrest and CalMac
