People ignoring the fact he might have pushed for a move to play games.

Fair enough saying to keep him around but the player himself is 27 and not wanting to sit as 5th choice or maybe even worse.

Chris Davies’ side aren’t done there, though, as Iwata, a former international teammate of Koji Miyoshi, is understood to already be in the West Midlands for a medical. The deal is not finalised just yet with contracts still to be signed, but all parties are confident.

Iwata, four times a representative for Japan at senior level, has made 42 appearances for Celtic since signing from Yokohama Marinos in 2023. The versatile 27-year-old originally signed for the 54-time Scottish champions on loan before joining permanently last summer

Predominantly a defensive midfielder but also capable of playing at centre-back, right-back or on either flank, Iwata should add depth in a variety of positions for Birmingham.

If signed, Iwata will become the 16th summer addition after Scott Wright, Ben Davies, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Ryan Allsop, Alex Cochrane, Willum Willumsson, Christoph Klarer, Emil Hansson, Marc Leonard, Alfie May, Alfons Sampsted, Luke Harris, Ayumu Yokoyama, Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Lyndon Dykes.

Fs I like Tomoki, still think he's capable of a job here. Dud we not use him at RB at one stage? Hope it's just a loan.

Probably my least favourite player last year to be honest, so this looks like a good bit of business to me. Hopefully with games, he can get his career on track. Good luck to him.

Fair play if he wants better and wants more game time.

But Birmingham? Really? I know he splits fan opinion but come on, he's better then that basket case of a league 1 club.

See as well, a * league one club trying to bid £10mill for a player.

    * what? Money down there is * rotten

We used him at centre half too. He could have provided cover in case Nawrocki left which doesn't seem likely right now.

I like his game as well. Unfortunately, he doesn't fit BR's possession-heavy style.

That’s a great signing for somebody. It didn’t work out here but he is a good player.

Outwith the initial first year, as Broony was pishband if he had still been in the team we'd have lost that league in 08, thankfully Robson and Hartley steadied us.

Actually think this is a mistake, midfield is threadbare, actually the squad overall.

Fair enough mate, I definitely wasn’t looking for an arguement and I’m still not so not sure why you think that. Iwata was compared to brown and I replied saying brown was much better which he was. So if you weren’t comparing him to brown I’m not sure why you replied to me when I was saying how brown was a better player. Are you looking for an arguement?

Yeah maybe mate I was always a big fan of brown and loved his energy in there. Thought Robson was class though and like you said Hartley steadied us too. I just always really rated brown domestically and then thiught he was struggling the season or two before Rodgers then was top notch again under him. Always thought he struggled a bit in the cl under Rodgers though
