have u seen a handsome hun
this is for tommy. as a ten year old you made me feel like i was the special one......as a 38 year old i realise just how special YOU are.
    thanks for memories.

THE SUN SHONE DOWN THAT MORNING
    TO WELCOME IN THE DAY
    AND * AWOKE TO PRAYER
AS THERE WAS A FOOTBALL GAME TO PLAY
HE'D NEED A TEAM SO GALLANT
A SIDE SO STRONG AND BRAVE
WITH BROTHER WALFRID AS HIS ASSISTANT
    THEY'D PLAY THE CELTIC WAY

TO PICK A TEAM * PONDERED
    WHO SHOULD GET TO PLAY
AND SO RONNIE SIMPSONS SAFE HANDS
WOULD GUARD THE GOALS THAT DAY
    NOW HE'D NEED DEFENDERS
SOME MEN WHO'D BE SO BRAVE
    SO JOHN CUSHLEY WAS AWARDED
    THE JERSEY HE SO CRAVED

BIG JOCK STEIN STOOD BESIDE HIM
    A GIANT AMONG THE REST
HE'D LEAD THIS TEAM AS CAPTAIN
    AND BE THE VERY BEST
    * KNEW HE'D NEED TO SCORE SOME GOALS
IF HIS TEAM WERE TO SUCCEED
SO HE CALLED UPON WEE JINKY
WITH ALL THE SKILL HE'D NEED

    AND JOHNNY DOYLE WAS READY
    JUST LIKE HE ALWAYS WAS
BRICK WALLS COULD NEVER STOP HIM
WHEN HE WAS PLAYING FOR THE BHOYS
AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARK
GODS CHOICE WAS LONG AND GREAT
AND SO BIG BOBBY MURDOCH WAS AT HAND
TO GRACE THE FIELD OF PLAY

YOUNG PHIL O'DONNELL WAS NEXT IN LINE
WHEN * ASKED HIM TO PLAY
AND THOUGH HE WAS THE YOUNGEST
HE KNEW THAT HE MUST PLAY
SO * WOULD NEED TO SHIELD YOUNG PHIL
WITH A MAN WHO TWISTS AND TURNS
    THE ONLY MAN SO WORTHY
    WAS CELTICS TOMMY BURNS

FOR HE'D TAKEN PHIL TO PARKHEAD
WHEN HE WAS STILL A BHOY
AND WITH TRAINING , LOVE AND GUIDANCE
    PHILS FOOTBALL BECAME A JOY
    SO NOW THEY'LL PLAY FOREVER
WITH TRUE LOVE FOR THE GAME
AND OUR FOOTBALL WORLD IS DARKER
AND WONT EVER BE THE SAME

    FOR * HAS CHOSEN WISELY
A SIDE FOR ME AND YOU
TO KEEP OUR HEARTS ON FIRE
WITH A LOVE THAT IS SO TRUE
AND WHEN * COMES A CALLING
FOR OUR MOTHERS, DADS, DAUGHTERS AND SONS
YOU KNOW THEYLL GET TO WEAR THE HOOPS
    BESIDE THE BRILLIANT TOMMY BURNS

AND IN THE YEARS THAT FOLLOW
THAT SIDE WILL GROW AND GROW
    AND WE WILL ALL REMEMBER
ALL THE BHOYS WE USED TO KNOW
    WITH HAIR LIKE BURNING FIRE
AND A HEART BIGGER THAN MOST
    TOMMY BURNS REMEMBERED
    SHALL BE OUR FONDEST TOAST

There were a few tears watching the memorial programme on Celtic TV. Im too young to have watched him as a player or as a manager but over the past few days i began to realise what type of player and person he was. * bless you TB

    RIP Tommy Burns

A wee idea about a good way to dedicate tomorrow night to Tommy, how about when we score and when we win this bl**dy league we sing The Fratellis number Chelsea Dagger even though we are away from home. But instead of the da da da at the beginning bit change it for Tommy Burns?

I'm not going to be there myself or I'd just try it myself but it would be fantastic to hear it on the tv... Does anyone else think this would work?

    Hail Hail!

I just felt it important to say a few words for Tommy. I'm not that religious myself, i don't really believe there's a hereafter. However, while Tommy Burns was here he gave his all, boy supporter, player and manager for this club and was a totally great guy. We will never forget him and I am sure he was watching over Tannadice. But big Jan gave him the sign. One up and a nice three point lead to take the title. Tommy knew we loved him anyway but we finished it off nicely for him.

A Personal View By Matt McGlone

Walking out of the North Stand one day i bumped into the brother of girl (nickname) i had known but hadn`t seen for ages. He told me his sister had terminal Leukaemia and was sometimes allowed out of hospital to see Celtic at the weekend. I chapped Tommy`s door on the monday and chatted about it and he told me him and i would take the Scottish Cup out of the trophy cabinet and up to Stobhill Hospital. The family had kept it a secret from Brenda and Tommy who had never met her walked through the drawn curtain around the bed and handed her the Trophy.

The look on her face is still vivid. The doctors said her spirits were raised so high her life was extended by some weeks.Brenda sadly passed away about 9 weeks later. On another occasion a mate`s nephew in Canada, young Ian who was 13, was diagnosed with the same terminal illness.

The WISH foundation who offer children an opportunity to go anywhere in the world they would like in their last few months or weeks of their life (many will choose Disneyland ect) offered young Ian a trip to anywhere. A Canadian born and bred with Scottish parents his experience of Celtic and it`s history was educated to him through his uncle, the lad had never been to Scotland or seen Celtic live.

At 13 he wanted to go into Celtic Park - and he did. I arranged for Ian in his wheelchair to interview Tommy in his office. A thrilling experience for the lad but just as we were leaving Tommy asked me to keep Ian in his office for a few minutes as he had a wee surprise for the boy.

Minutes later later Tommy gave the signal and Ian was wheeled down the tunnel to a guard of honour of Celtic`s whole first team applauding him onto the pitch. The team picture was then taken with Ian sitting proudly beaming in the middle of the front row amongst the players. There have been many more acts of love and kindness from Tommy and he was one of life`s wonderfull human beings who had the thought of mind to make life better for other less fortunate.

Fantastic tribute wrote in the alternative view :shamrock:R.I.P:shamrock:

This piece was passed to me by a Motherwell supporter who requested i post it on the forum on their behalf which i found touching. . . . . .

Now that you have gone away
It’s our memories of you that stay
Stored in our minds old and new
Each one different, but each one You.

A Celtic legend with Guile and Flair
A Football talent with Fiery Hair

A father figure to many, you did fit the bill
For not least of all our Uncle Phil.
    As you’re with him now
    You are perfect
to be the coach of a Heavens Select

    A Coach, Father, Husband, Son
Brother, Team Mate, you were each one

Now all we have are memories of you,
    Pictures, stories, some poems too
And all the tributes in the press.
    To keep for Ever

    Good Night, * Bless

I know it's late, but I just joined the site today. Just wanted to add to the comments above and express the sorrow and feeling of loss when I heard the news of Tommy's passing. He was a true gent and a great embassador for our beloved club. I'm glad he was given such a fitting and well deserved tribute on the day of his funeral and by winning the league.

    R.I.P. Tommy
    Forever in Paradise.
    Hail Hail.
