Breaking. Celtic and the mariners have agreed on a transfer fee for Tom Rogic. All needs to be done now is for Rogic to sort personal terms.

I think it's just about safe to say welcome to Celtic, Tom! Delighted to have another Aussie wear the hoops!

Sounds promising though let's hope he doesn't get his head turned by some third rate EPL mob who can offer more money.

Not really there's still the risk of injury which would jeopardise the deal

I hope your refering to the domestic competition, and not Australian football in general?

3 consecutive world cups would suggest Australian football is going OK, and before you jump down Asian confederates throat (like most do), I'd love to see how Scotland fare in away fixtures in Seoul, Tokyo or Beijing, or playing in 45 degree's in the Arab states....... not as easy as it sounds.

As for Rogic, Tim Cahill is a terrible comparison, Cahill is 5"10 with a ridiculous vertical leap, and increadible game sense, not the most skilled on the ball.

He's 6"2, powerful on the ball, works back into center midfield well, and is fairly creative.

As for the tall, cumbersome and slow comments.........

The last 6"2 tall, cumbersome and slow Australian went alright for you guys.....

15 Jan 2013, 04:25 AMTom Rogic deal (£400k) to be completed by end of the week. Helder Barbosa deal still on the cards possibly (£0) pre-contract to join in the summer.
Also considering moves for Marko Scepovic (£1.2m) and Juwon Oshaniwa (No fee mentioned).

Good to see us moving quickly in the window and not leaving it till the last min. Dont know a great deal about any of the above however our recently record of signing unknowns has worked well with the likes of Wanyama, Ambrose, Kayal, etc etc.....long may it continue. [IMG]

    In Lenny we trust.
Out of those four, Helder Barbosa has the best name. By miles.
    I'd go for him [IMG]

Scepovic (if it's the one I'm thinking of) is a very good player. I've watched him play two or three times for Partizan this season and he's banging in the goals, although he's only been there since August, so I'm not sure we'd get him this window (mind you, that's the case with Oshaniwa). I'm sure he played in Israel as well so is this maybe another one of Dudu's players?

Interestingly, it was his dad who scored the decisive goal in the 6-6 (on aggregate) game against Partizan that knocked us out of the '89 Cup Winner's Cup. So he knows who we are. :smiley-laughing002:

Barbosa on a pre-contract would be huge.

Edit: Just seen that it's Marko (the younger one), I was thinking of his brother Stefan. Both play for FK Partizan. Still a very good prospect. Any link to it?

Marko Scepovic is utter pish, Stefan is even worse. Sheridan from Killie is a * Messi compared to them.

Probably time to put mcgeough out on loan if we really have completed this signing. Hes already struggling to make the bench quite often and he needs game time to progress. I have high hopes for the kid but in most cases we tend to play the guys we have paid for over youth teamers and I doubt this will be an exception. See what he can do in a half year in the spl for a team that likes to play football and then see if he can break into our team. The biggest clubs in the world are doing this with their promising youngsters so why not us?

Although thats the way it should be sadly that isn't the case, someone who we bring in will usually be given a chance ahead of youth teamers no matter their ability level. A youth teamer failing to make the cut doesn't reflect poorly on the manager/scouting staff therefore they will generally be give less chances and have to be more impressive than someone who was brought in. Football is littered with examples of players who were good enough but just weren't given a chance and eventually went on to become greats somewhere else.

It would probably be best for McGeouch to go out on loan, he needs games and I doubt he will get much game time once Rogic comes in.
