One of those who would either be a real crowd pleaser or an absolute disaster tbh
At least it would be a step up from Naylor, but so would my granny.

Latest news is that we've put in a 4million dollars (?) bid for him.

Roughly 2million quids, so if true I'd take it.

To be honest I'd still rather have another LB for competition & punt Naylor for close to the 2million for Atouba i.e. Atouba for nowt!!!:50:

Used to be very good for FC Basel, although he used to play very risky from time to time (dribbling from his own penalty box), but he was very entertaining and spectacular. haven't really followed his career at HSV

i remember him playing against us when he was at FC Basel. i remember thinking he was pretty good, and as a result used to watch out for him if he was ever involved in a match i was watching, be it champions league with hsv or in the prem with spurs. his passing has always been slick, and he is very quick across the park, strong also. his positioning was suspect i always felt, he was more interested going forwards.

a possible weak link in any defence.

    Strachan eyes Hamburg ace[IMG]

    evening times by Ronnie Cully

CELTIC can help fund a £2million bid for Hamburg full-back Timothee Atouba with the profit they make if they agree to sell Evander Sno to Osasuna for £1.5m.
The Bundesliga club are ready to let the Cameroon defender leave, and the SPL champions head the queue of clubs interested in buying the 26-year-old former Spurs and Basel man.
Manager Gordon Strachan has been tracking an experienced left-back to challenge or replace Lee Naylor and Atouba (pictured) is considered to have all the attributes to fill the jersey.

Hamburg claim Celtic have already sounded them out about Atouba, and the indications are an offer in the region of £2m would satisfy the Germans who paid around this figure when they bought him from White Hart Lane in 2004.
The player has endured some troubled times in Germany, most notably when he gestured and swore to his own club's fans during a game and then when he was fined £50,000 and suspended for returning late from February's African Nations Cup Final.
His fate was sealed at that point, and a parting of the ways has been inevitable ever since.
Atouba's price would be within Celtic's range.
Despite returning very healthy profits in the last 18 months, and having already secured their place in next season's Champions League, Strachan has a number of positions he wants to strengthen and the budget for acquiring new players demands the manager still has to do his business carefully.
The departure of some fringe players - Adam Virgo has already been removed from the wage bill - would boost his spending power. So Osasuna's persistence in chasing Dutchman Sno could finally pay off.
The La Liga club have been on the trail of the 21-year-old for over a year and are ready to make another move as Sno becomes increasingly frustrated at a lack of starting opportunities.
Celtic paid only £85,000 to Feyenoord when Strachan spotted Sno playing in Holland in 2006. He signed a four-year contract and has improved immeasurably since then, becoming a regular starter for the Dutch Under-21 side.
Strachan would like to keep the player, but Osasuna are considering testing Celtic's resolve by tabling an offer of £1.5m which would give the Parkhead club a very healthy profit.
Meanwhile, Roma's Matteo Brighi retains hope that he could be on Strachan's shopping list.
A new contract offer is not forthcoming from his current club and the £2m-rated 27-year-old midfielder said: "If Celtic were to come up with an offer the club accepted, it would certainly be an interesting proposal."

...i don't. he will make CP one of the most nervous stadiums for the home support. he loves to get himself into trouble, and tbh, my heart doesn't need that.

i could understand if we were after him and another first team left back and sell Naylor.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon

100% agreement with that, Hammy - the guy is a f^cking liability. He would have 87 minutes of greatness for Spurs, then 2 minutes of complete f^cking insanity which would make him look like an erratic Gravesen. And that's saying something.

I never thought i'd say the words, but "stay Naylor, all is forgiven".

As for Brighi..... i am not sure - saw him when he was in his early 20's and he had everything (same as Donati). Think he could do a good job, but would not go for more than 2 million to get him.:celt_2:

I was well impressed when he was at Spurs but there were one or two shocking moments - agreed.

The fact is we need an improvement on LB and there aren't many of them around. For £2 million I would snap the hand off

I'd have him for 2mills, but I still want Rat & I still want Naylor to get his life back on track down south...Are Pompey still interested in Naylor?

PS. I'm not generally a greedy booger, but we really need LB quality/competition.
