Naw I don't pander to any *. In my opinion, a school should teach generic religion so kids have the basic tools to help them decide and the parents can then take the responsibility to teach them their own belief/faith. By doing it that way, it might as I said earlier, remind the parents (the main source of intolerance) that the religion they follow also teaches tolerance towards other religions.

The one thing I am very grateful for is that I don't need to make the policy for the state, as whatever way it goes it does annoy/divide people. Maybe I do pander .. hmm :39:

What's it like over your side of the water over here it's just practice for exams it doesn't help you at all. Schools should be a place where people learn to question things and learn for themselves not recite what it says in the books ( not just religious ones now :56: I mean everything )

    What are my theories?

I never said it would cure the worlds ills to do away with religious schools, but i do believe it would help in the long run, especially in the west of Scotland.

Where are the schools where no religion is taught?
I went to a Non Denom, and although they are in the strictest sense of the word, not meant to follow any denomination as such, they still teach, (or taught when i was there)a general christian religious education.

And yes, we had R.E every week.
I wouldnt ban religion, i would not allow religious bodies to have any input in the teaching of children.I would still happily allow a broad education of all religions, as someone mentioned.

I dont know, what do you think?

I would guess because of the Ireland situation, and the original Protestant only policy of Rangers, and the perceived Catholicism of Celtic, prior to 1916.
The 10's of thousands of Irish immigrants who landed in Scotland in the 19th century, needing help and jobs and food and housing, but trying to find these things in an area already short of these things.
Resentment from the already poor Glaswegians to the competition, counter resentment from the incomers to the lack of hospitality.A general build-up of tensions from divided communities coupled with the different sects of the same christianity?

    Stuff like that?

What is your idea of the reason?
