Kids do grow up and play with each other regardless of their religion....any hatred it taught in the home... Not at schools.

Of course youre not fanatical extremists with warped views etc......that is not what i am implying at all.

You are referring to this post in another thread:
I dont want to jump in here to say something along the lines of 'brainwashing' and religion.........but lets be honest, this is a classic example of how people are forced into religion by the parents, and then it goes wrong, as in this case.

Obviously in the vast majority of cases, people just happily adhere to what they were taught, to the detriment of no one.......but if this doesnt get alarm bells ringing in the heads of some people, then there isnt much else i can say!

Well i stand by that, but you have focussed on the part you see as insulting and ignored the part where i accept that in the vast majority of cases people just happily get on with their lives.....not as nutters but as everyday people.

I got a bit of flak for using the term brainwashed a few years ago, but what else can it be called?I too was subjected to this by the age of 3 or 4, and all throughout my adolescence........and beyond, but the fact that some continue to believe what they were forced into and some dont, doesnt mean i am slagging those that do, i am only not burying my head in the sand and stating....for a fact....that we are all brainwashed as children.Catholics, Protestant, Muslims and Jews alike.
It isnt a nice term......but there isnt really any nice term for it is there?
If someone suggests a more suitable term, i will use that in future.

I have to keep repeating myself here.
I am no more anti Catholic than i am anti any other religion........but this is a forum with a predominantly Catholic membership, so the subject of that specific religion comes up a lot more, not to mention the fact it is the biggest religion in the world.
All it takes is for one or two people to publicly accuse me of such a bias, and then others pick up on it.Mud sticks.

Its true...Tim made a sensible point, but some will always find a way to justify the status quo, regardless of common sense.

Like Marie said, religion taught in schools has * all to do with any of the worlds ills.
In fact the biggest sections of the populous in Scotland that have the biggest intolerance to others go to schools where no religion is taught.

Kinda throws your * theories out the window.

Also any religious schools that i have been in (i manage contracts for several) they teach inclusion of ALL religions. Not just one, and in no way to they act like the way you seem to think they do.

The problem is too many vested interests, that will stop it. We differ in that you would "ban" religion (thats your right). While I don't agree with that, I will defend your right to have that view. I believe in * and would hope that by doing it separately from school this might actually help reduce the bigots. As if they had to teach their kids their religion as all religions at some point teach understanding/tolerance/love/peace/etc this might help the parents be more tolerant of other religions as well.

I think that's a load of pish to be honest, we used to fight with boys from another Catholic school and were pals with ND ones.

Intolerance is taught in the home, not at any school.
Your kind of thinking that's wrong, not the system.

Aye, that's what made me think about it.

I think it's better that way, got taught about Islam/Judaism/Bhuddism etc, personally I think it made us far more tolerant of others. The ND school down the road didn't get taught about it and they were always full of the 'black *', '* *' etc etc.

Schools will always fight between themselves for the "honour" of the school (ie our school was harder/better) mainly or that was what we fought for anyway. :icon_mrgreen:

I'm well aware of the location of most intolerance.
I would not agree that intolerance is free from all schools however.
The system is rarely agreed on in this forum, so that would be a first :86:

Aye but if our Catholic schools were breeding hatred against anyone who wasn't Catholic then you think we'd team up with the Catholic school against the ND one instead of the other way about do you not?

So according to you I'm with the "biggest bigots" in the country "eh" , what utter *. Maybe you can highlight my post that says "the big bad kafflik schools" as well ?

Again, have I specifically said Catholic schools ? No, I said religion in all schools, as to allow it for one religion would be wrong, so all would need to be treated the same.
