Just all sounds a bit messy. It's been rumoured Thompson has had problems for a while, but hadn't realise it was at this stage.

And getting lawyers involved is never a good thing.

 

I think if they do go for another first team coach they may very well just promote Stephen Frail to the position

 

Lawyers are always involved. Just makes it sound more serious.

This news would have been no real surprise to Lennon/Thompson. It's been rumoured for months.

Given he was done for drink driving the day after a heavy session in October 2010 - and that this wasn't his first conviction for drink driving - I would assume he's been getting help for some time.

We can't call the sacking disgusting - or even unwarranted - in the absence of the (recent) facts. That's just speculating with no info.

Hope he's OK. This will be a real tough time for him...

 

I'd expect John Kennedy to be promoted first. He's already been fast tracked into an academy job so they must have high hopes for him. He is also doing quite well.

 

Yes I know lawyers are always involved, but publicly announcing it is a slight concern. This could have been done behind the scenes rather than creating a story out of it.

 

I think the booze is his biggest problem

Regardless of any problems he has and good luck to him resolving them......if he's not fit to be in position he has to be removed.

It's pure speculation as to why Thommo was sacked, but at the end of the day if your boss phones you for a meeting and you refuse to attend as Thommo apparently did, then you leave yourself open to repercussions.

Whatever the reason behind the sacking I don't think Lenny would have made the decison lightly or without giving it great consideration and wieghing up the options. Much as I admire Thommo and appreciate all he has done for the club I trust and respect Lenny. At the end of the day Celtic Football Club and what is best for it is Lennon's top priority.

I think in this instance they had to mention it was in the hands of lawyers as the media had stated that Thommo had been sacked over the phone.....Which made things look bad for Celtic as a club and Lennon personally. They made the statement to clarify the context of the phone call without going into details, that Thommo was invited to a meeting regarding his future and refused to attend.....So he was informed during the call that he had been sacked.

 

Seems weird but if he does have a drink problem then lennys done the right thing before the drink problem affects our training system.

 

I totally understand that, but it's not something you want leaked to the press in the first place.

You'd think there is enough respect between Lennon and Thompson not to drag the whole thing into the public arena which, as you say, makes the club look bad and forces us into making these bollocks statements.

 

While were getting Steve Clarke we should put a bid in for Rooney and van persie, it will never happen because just like players down south * be on alot more money than Thompson and possibly lennon.

 

I agree with you mate. One of the two had to be the original source. I doubt very much Lennon or anyone from Celtic would want to go to the media and say he just sacked his number one over the phone.

My thoughts exactly, and IF it is a drink problem then in the long run Lennon has probably done Thommo a huge favour in giving him the wake up call he needs to get his * back together.

 

I trust we would have covered all avenues and legalities regarding his dismissal if as has been said its related to personal problems ,the only way its safe to do this is if he has refused help from the club ,or breached terms of ,but like everyone else its all just speculation and rumour ,but without that we would never have found out so much about rangers so we cant slate rumour .
