True mate, the SPL is a canter and is no reflection of our ability and this close to the season were gettin gubbed off a team finishing just outside the EPL relegation zone last season.

I feel it was grit and a bit of luck that took us through in the CL last season, but im still confident I suppose.

There did seem to be alot of things missing from that team last night.

When its a real competition teams perform better, thats why parkhead was the fortress on CL nights. If we had got Newcastle in CL no way would of it been 4-1. Yes we would like to wn all our frindlies but realisiticlally it wont affect how we play in the SPl so dont get to worried

I have to say, im not one to get too excited or down about friendlies cause in my opinion they dont usually reflect the outcome of the season, but i am getting concerned by the defence and at times i am questioning GS's starting line-up and substitutions.
He seems the kind of guy that if you work all week in training then you are almost guarenteed a starting place. But what use is playing palyers who work hard in training but dont perform on the pitch?

An example would be Agathe, apparently he was a lazy trainer, but he was just one of these guys that are naturally fit and didnt need to do fitness training as much as some others. But because Oneill let him get away with it, he got into the habit of becoming a lazy trainer. Therefore since GS wants everyone to train just as hard then he got shot of him, even thoguh we've never really managed to replace him at right-back.

He added pace in our defence, remember when he kept overmars (one of th fastest palyers around) out fo the game against barca? Could you imagine caldwell doing the same thing, cant really say much about wilson because truthfully ive not seen a lot of him.

Although he is the manager and im going to back him all the way, especially since he has delivered success over the past few seasons. its just that he seems to be blind to some players, such as pressley and hartleys, misgivings. And as far as im concered Mcgeady is just a fan dancer who has the occasional good game, but most of the time cuts inside and loses the ball.

    :D

I am worried about the defence. I dont see how the Manager can not see we lack seriou space at the back.

No wonder ppl down south dont rate us when they see us perform like that

GS plays for the points wereas MON's team played for the jersey would think its behind a lot of the GS feeling me thinks. Wish we would played somewhere near our best instead of getting Embarrassed. World already thinks we are pish playing in the SPL so getting rattled off Newcastle doesn't help

-Martin O'Neill took us to a European final
-Martin O'Neill beat Rangers 7 games consecutively
-Won the treble in that first season
-Beat Rangers at Ibrox 3-0, first time we beat them in 6 years away
-Made a British record of winning 25 games consecutively
-Made Celtic Park a fortress by going unbeaten 68 games there

And Strachan hasn't came close to matching any those achievements.

PS Don't turn this into a Strachan v O'Neill thread

Yes under MON we beat all the english teams . We got lucky against Man Utd only Boruc and Nakas brilliance got us through . And if MON had got a bit of the luck Ginger bawz is getting wed have won a UEFA Cup and have got to the last 16 of the CL possibly further

    he has so.

    he won the double twice.
thats pretty close to a treble.

beat rangers 2-0 and 3-0 in one month , both at cp. thats pretty close to 3-0 away.

took us into the last 16, mon only got us into the final of the eufa cup after FAILING to reach the last 16.

O'Neill dismantled the Advocaat regime in his first season by winning the treble, including a 6-2 defeat of Rangers. Changing the dominance in Glasgow, completely.

Whereas Strachan took on a McLeish's Rangers side which was equally as weak as us. This first season included humiliation in Europe as well as Clyde.

Staggering............to think you can even draw a comparison between they seasons.

    do you have learning difficulties?

i've told you 2 /3 times that you cant have an offical worst team ever.
    only statisticly.

also you forgot to defend sir martin on the point of him getting to the final AFTER FAILING to get into the last 16, i guess it was his plan to win the uefa cup rather than getting to the last 16 all along?
